More and more families in the U.S. avoid cooking A study done by harvard business review found that Americans fall into one of three groups: 15% said that they loved to cook, 50% said that they hated to cook and 35% are indecisive (Tetreault). The Bureau of labor statistics revealed that the average household spends almost $3,000 per year on dining out. These numbers are a clear indication that people are eating out more and that home cooking is in decline. According to the Nielsen Company, the total amount of money spent on food away from home has increased 94% since 2003. People today and especially millennials crave convenience more than anything. NDP, which is a market research firm shared that under 60% of meals eaten at home are actually cooked at home. There are many reasons for the decline of home cooking. The first reason is the increase number of working women. Another reason is simply that people don't have the time that they used to. “We’re all looking for someone else to cook for us” says Harry Balzer an analyst at NDP.
