A.) Is there a difference between Social Work & Social Welfare or are they the same thing?  Explain your answer.

B.) Who do Liberals, Conservatives, & Radicals believe is responsible for meeting a person's needs in society?  And what political ideology do you believe most describes your views?

Choose a social problem and post in the designated discussion board what your research topic will be.   This can be pretty much any social problem, just try to make it interesting and not too vague or general.

For example:

Child Abuse – too vague                    vs         the effects of early sexual abuse – good topic

Mental Health – too vague                 vs         schizophrenia among young adults – good topic

Substance Abuse – too vague             vs         long term effects of prescription dependence – good topic

Find a research article related to the social problem you picked.

This must be collected from at least 1 research based article from a professional journal of social-work, or related field.  Articles from pop-magazines, or web-hosted cites do not count.  If your article is web-based, it MUST be peer –reviewed and publishable or data-driven professional research. Just because an article is on the web, that doesn’t mean it’s been published or is professional. It is  STRONGLY recommended you use the electronic databases through the DCCCD library.

Here is a link to the databases of our District Library:   http://www.dcccd.edu/Current%20Students/Libraries/Research%20a%20Topic/Pages/Databases.aspx

I recommend using CQ Researcher, Academic Search Complete, or EBSCO.  Any of these will get you good research articles. Remember you have already paid for access to these databases from your tuition, so you might as well use it.
