Introduction:

Social media marketing (SMM) is the use of social media by marketers to increase brand awareness, identify key audiences, generate leads, and build meaningful relationships with customers (Hootsuite). SMM centers around efforts to create engaging content that attracts, resonates with, and encourages readers to engage with and share content with their social networks.

Components:

Company Selection: Select a local DFW business-to-consumer company, with a website that is active on Facebook and Instagram and/or Twitter.

*Active means they must have posted to both platforms within the past 3 months.

**The company must be a real company. You may use your own business if you have one that meets these requirements.

Paid / Owned / Earned Media: Provide one example of each type of media.

Take a screenshot of each media type and paste it into slides 3-5. In the notes section write 2-3 sentences explaining the image and how it fits the selected type of media.

*If you cannot find an example of paid media, provide an example of paid media you think they engage in or an example of paid media they should engage in.

Customer Persona: Create one persona that is representative of the company’s target market. Many companies have multiple personas (target markets), however, you only need to create one.

Give your persona a name and enter the information into slide 6. The notes section provides examples of information that can/should be found in each section.

Content Posts: Select one post from Facebook and one post from Instagram or Twitter within the past 3 months that successfully uses at least two components of a post for the respective platform.

Take a screenshot of each post and paste it into slides 7-8. In the notes section list the two components used and write 2-3 sentences explaining how the company successfully used each component and/or how the company could improve the post.

Influencers: Select one influencer for Facebook and one influencer for Instagram or Twitter that you think would successfully promote your company.

Take a screenshot of each influencer’s profile and paste it into slides 9-10. In the notes section explain in 2-3 sentences what makes them a good influencer using at least three of the five components of a good influencer.

Social Media Advertising: Create one advertisement for Facebook and one advertisement for Instagram or Twitter that the company could use.

You can focus the ads around the customer persona you created in slide 6 or a different persona.

*The advertisement for each platform should be customized to the platform and the audience that can be found on the platform. Thus, the exact same advertisement cannot be used for both platforms.

Take a screenshot of each advertisement and paste it or create it directly in PowerPoint into slides 11-12.

*You can create each advertisement using a social media post template (search online for templates) or create it directly in PowerPoint. In the notes section explain in 2-4 sentences the targeting, objective, and ad format for each advertisement.

On slide 13 explain how the advertisements in slides 11-12 are customized to fit the audience on each platform.

Deliverable:

Students will use information gained throughout the semester to analyze various social media components of a selected company.

Students will submit a 13-slide PowerPoint presentation via Canvas explaining each of the components listed above. Please submit the file as PowerPoint, not PDF so the notes can be read.

*Students are welcome to change the design/layout of the template provided and customize it to their liking. However, please do not change the format of the presentation (order of slides).
