Social Media can Influence Healthcare Positively In the Following Ways
Clearly the influence of social media in circulating information, build communities, and elevating businesses is unquestionable, and it has also proven to be a useful tool in healthcare for things like sharing resources between research organizations, gathering feedback on consumers' experiences with a new device, and recruiting participants for clinical trials (Mack, 2017)

Sharing research with colleagues
Spreading the news about new devices or treatments that may be beneficial to the public
Drive patient’s engagement
Teaching the healthcare colleagues, patients or general public and/ provide access/link to information that they might not know about. Facebook and twitter are effective in achieving this.
Provide avenue for support groups for those with mental or other health conditions
*The use of social media to spread news about new treatment or devices is very essential, as the general public can benefit from this information and pass it unto their acquaintances For instances, afriend of mine who suffers from apnea learnt about UAS (upper airway stimulation) from her fakebook page, which she states is working for her so far.
*One of the best usefulness of social media is providing an avenue where people with mental or physical illness can meet like-peers who suffer from the same illness , and coping well, or even a support group for those in these conditions.
*Driving patient engagement is another useful way in which social media benefits the public and healthcare industries, to better provide quality service. Platforms like twitter or fakebook, for example is perfect at this. Pts can engage in a group discussion about certain treatments and/ drugs they take, and how it did or didn’t work for them, amongst other topics.

*Conspiracy theories/disinformation is one of the biggest issues with getting healthcare information from the media, as these conspiracy theorists use social media to target their most vulnerable preys
*Misuse of social media by some health-care givers has led to many privacy and confidentiality issues’; According to Tuckett and Turner in 2016 survey, 28% of nursing (almost 30%), said they are not very versed about policies or standards of using social media in their field of practice , making it even common to unintentionally bridge their pts privacy/confidentiality.
*Just like any other organization benefits or hurts from social media customer rating, hospitals and providers can also suffer the same fate, as they can’t control how consumers/patients rate the service received. Once a review is on the media, it will remain there for ever.
*About 65% of Americans self diagnose through the information gotten from the media, and as a result 74% develop anxiety as a result of their research with the use of social media.

Lobbying advocating for the interests of patients, providers, insurance companies and others in the health care industry, to ensure officials make educated decisions
How to go about this:
Schedule a meeting with the local government representative.
In a short and concise presentation, convince them about the importance of enforcing laws that can prohibit social medias from allowing non-fact checked conspiracy theories.
forming alliance with other health care sectors
support and encourage healthcare representative running for election, so they can help push the agenda.
*It is very important that the legislature look into some damaging effects that social media posses to healthcare, such as worsening mental health, teen pregnancy, self diagnosis that leads to damaging health effects, and having people to rely on conspiracy theorist for health concerns; meeting with the local government representatives, can provide a platform to express this concerns.
*By forcing alliance with other healthcare sectors, we can produce strong candidates who can run for office and work for the interest of healthcare sectors; especially in ensuring that the media is strictly regulated in matters concerning health and healthcare.

How this topic impact your role as a nurse in nursing workforce or clinical setting?
This topic impact my role as a nurse in the following ways:
As a nurse, knowing how sensitive social media can be, I will be more mindful with things I share on social media.
It will help me Utilize the platform to create a more positive image about nurses in general and my facility.
Instead of allowing its negative impact, such as misinformation, and self diagnosis, I will utilize it to further educate the public.
It provides a large avenue for healthcare providers/givers to interact with patients about health concerns.
*Although social media poses a lot of threats to the vulnerable public, as a nurses we can utilize it to provide education/information to the public, and try to correct people’s impression about running to social media for help with any health symptoms, instead of seeking real medical care/diagnosis.
*In addition, we as nurses can also be at the fore front in fighting heath care misinformation, by constantly reminding the public to source health related information from scientifically backed researches, rather than relying on the media.

Public divide about Covid Vaccines:
Since the use of covid vaccine, there is been a lot of divide concerning its effectiveness, risks the need for its mandate.
Healthcare providers/Pharmaceutical companies, should use media platform to their advantage, in better explaining to the public how this vaccine actually work, and come out clean about any negative effect.
I feel like when the public Is told the whole truth about the vaccine, it will encourage more people to participate rather than being forced.
Anyone who has a bad reaction to the vaccine should be heard, rather than being forced to shut up by vaccine advocates; these peoples concerns should be gathered and investigated properly.
*I feel like a huge part of the reason why many people do not trust Covid vaccine is how the healthcare industries are going about its advocate. Many people are being bullied online for airing their opinion about the vaccine, even those who claimed a bad reaction after taking the shot, are being bullied to shut up and forcefully take the shot.
*This has created a lot of divide and distrust from many members pf the public, so instead of using the media to forcefully forcing the agenda of covid shot, healthcare providers/industries should use it to listen to peoples concerns, analyze them, while also educating them about any confusion or unanswered question they might have concerning the vaccine; that way they can win many more people over.

This is an online platform that provide providers and patients the opportunity to network about health concerns.

*On this platform users share their health information , experiences , track their conditions, and communicate with others who have similar illness; this can also provide users an opportunity for support group.
*Healthcare providers/givers can sign up to this site, to provide users some health information, and consultations, that can benefit them medically.

Overall, Social Media has its pros and cons
As Nurses we can utilize its pros to a very great height.
We can utilize social media to connect, educate, and share important health information with the general public, rather than use it for “like.”
