1. Reaction Statements:

“Abortion should be decriminalized and should be legalized in all the countries.”

2. Explanation of selection:

Criminalizing abortion in the name of pro-life does not end the practice. Instead, it pushes women into settings and such practices that are unsafe for them. These abortions are done in an unsafe environment or method that can cause short-term or long-term health problems for the abortion seeker, and even in cases, it can lead to death (Wells). Moreover, imposing highly restrictive laws on women regarding abortions is a form of impositions on the freedom of a person to make their own choice. In cases of forceful sexual acts and rape cases, women are forced to keep the baby, which is utterly inhumane and a violation of human rights (Pipel, 1996). Moreover, banning abortions leads to forcefully completing their pregnancies and taking overburdens that are also against their own will and consent, hence, another form of human rights violation. Abortion should not be about religion rather about giving rights to the mother toward their own body.

3. Definition of issue:

Abortion is the act of ending a pregnancy through a pill or surgery done by a licensed health professional. It is currently a social dilemma because the opponents of abortion state that it is equal to killing a child. Therefore, it is important to state certain reasons as to when and why abortion should be considered legal (Miguel Vivanco, 2020). Firstly, women should be allowed to abort a child before 14 weeks of pregnancy, which is before the heartbeat of a child is formed. Secondly, it should be allowed when pregnancy is a result of a crime such as rape, incest, etc. Lastly, it should be allowed for the sake of protecting the mother’s health, which might be in danger due to pregnancy.
