Social Media: Scatter Plots
You would like to use more than one social media site to advertise your music shop business so you have decided to use Facebook as well. |
1. Write an equation that would help you determine the number of Facebook ads you would purchase, x, when your budget is unknown and each ad cost $1000. Use the box below to help you set up your equation.
2. Using the equation, what is the maximum amount of Facebook ads you can purchase if your budget is $9000?
The following data was collected in past years to try to determine how Facebook ads affect music sales.

3. Plot the points and draw the line of best fit on the graph above. Double click the chart to make the scatterplot and line of best fit.
4. Using the graph above, determine the equation for the line of best fit on the line that you drew.
a. Using two points on the line you drew determine the slope.
b. Plug in the slope of the line and a point on your line into the equation y =mx + b and solve for b to determine the y-intercept.
c. Using your answers from a and b above, write the equation of the line in slope-intercept form.
Hint: only m and b are being replaced.
5. What does the slope tell you about how each Facebook ad affects sales? Is it a positive or negative correlation?
6. Using your line of best fit, determine the change between sales and ads.
7. If our budget increased and we were able to purchase 11 Facebook ads, predict how much the music sales would be.
8. Use the equation for the line of best fit from #4c to see if your prediction is correct. Show all your work!
9. Complete the xy-table using points on your line and determine if your line represents an arithmetic or geometric sequence. Why?
