Assignment 2: Furthering the Research Study – Bivariate Analysis

Complete the following assignment by filling in all pertinent areas of research. You will need to utilize SPSS and the GSS dataset specified in the class for this assignment. (B) Recoding (20 pts)

Choose one of your variables to recode. If you have an interval/ratio variable, you may recode it into an ordinal variable. If you have a nominal or ordinal variables, recode the one with the most categories into fewer categories. (NOTE: If you have categorical variables that only have 2-3 values, such as sex, race, or a Yes/No question, do not recode them – instead, recode the GSS variable MNTLHLTH).

Run a crosstab on your variables.  Be sure to explain your findings, including a description of the table, a calculation of the epsilons, and a discussion of the 10% rule.
