Hello Professor and Classmates,

War is a development and costly issue. Throughout their infrastructure and internal economies, wars take away from a country’s development as well as generating a high mortality rate.  Military spending and weapons prices hamper the economy.  When there is war, the nation loses the ability to invest outside its own borders, as the focus is on something inside, and outside countries tend to stay away from investing in exports. For example, indirect conflicts effects are as significant as direct effects when measured in terms of infant mortality rates conflicts typically results in surplus infant mortality equal to the direct deaths observed. The governments in many at-risk nations face serious problems of corruption and exposure to international price shocks, due to their heavy dependence on natural resource revenues. The separation starts when groups feel burdened or ignored by their government. Developed nations appreciate more economic stability than their counterparts that are less advanced. There is less risk of insurgency with economic stability, as there is no imminent threat of controlling capital. To grasp the void in progress created by armed conflict, we need to examine the counter-factual--- what would have been the situation if civil war had not taken place?
