1. Describe three to four examples from your local or state articles on CPS to support concepts from each of the organizational theories. |
According to the Alabama.gov (2017), these are the child protection services theories in the state; 1. Maintenance of the central registry on child abuse and neglect. This registry allows the carrying out of follow-ups on child protection cases. 2. There is the concept of child abuse reporting where there is the clearly stipulated framework on how to go about making reports on child abuse or neglect. 3. The other is on the offering of grants for the child protection services monitoring. |
|
2. Explore two websites of agencies that CPS collaborates with and discuss the services that those agencies provide that support the state’s CPS organization. |
1. The Child Welfare Information Gateway denotes the collaboration of states with the universities for the provision of training to the child welfare staffs on how to improve the manner of providing children with their needs. 2. There is also the collaboration with the juvenile justice agencies to provide services to the young people to bring about societal changes (Child Welfare Information Gateway). |
|
3. Explore two websites and discuss how the different organizations address diversity. |
1. The Center for Disease Prevention website addresses diversity through the formulation of a strategic framework that supports the agency’s policy on diversity. The formulated framework means that the aspect of diversity continues to thrive even with the changes in management. 2. The United Nations promotes cultural diversity through initiatives such as the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity. |
|
4. How would you address ethics and diversity in your chosen role? How would you support the organizations diversity policies or initiatives? |
I would address ethics and diversity through undertaking ethical practices along with offering people an allowance to carry out activities associated with their diversity. I would also help in the formulation of policies touching on ethics and diversity. I would also campaign for the formulation of policies on diversity. Such policies ensure that the aspect of diversity remains inscribed in people as part of their organizational values. The other thing is that I would arrange for the conventions where all the people get a chance to showcase their aspects of diversity. As such, people get to appreciate each other’s sense of diversity while embracing each other for who they are. |

5. What are the functions of CPS as a bureaucracy? Use Weber’s theory. |
Lawrence (2004) noted that the administrative bureaucracy in child protection services involves rationalizing the achievement of the goals of the organization. |
|
6. What are the dysfunctions of CPS as a bureaucracy? Use Weber’s theory. |
Lawrence (2004) observed that there had been a disadvantage of the bureaucracy due to the creation of a lot of procedures and lots of information that requires collection. |
|
7. How would you apply systems theory to CPS? |
With the thought of families as being living systems (systems Theory 2012), I would ensure that there is the seamless interaction between the various systems in child protection. I would also ensure there is the division of the various functions to ensure that each section has the roles and responsibilities that they should fulfill while also bearing responsibility to incurred costs. |
|
8. What suggestions do you have for improving large bureaucratic agencies such as CPS? |
One suggestion is that there should be minimal chains of commands that would possibly end up derailing the services rendered to children. The other thing is that there should be the inclusion of all the involved parties. Such a move helps eliminate the possibility of resistance among the involved persons. Resistance has the possibility of derailing possible changes and improvements. One thing is that child protection is a critical subject because it involves minors and hence the need for total cooperation from the involved people. |
