Small group individual analysis
Introduction
This group is made of members who are from the three contents: Europe, Asia and Africa and are concerned with human rights movements. We met over internet sites such as Facebook and over time, it has become a real group that is working together. This paper is going to discuss about the communication systems, the way the group members meet for face- to- face meetings, the leadership in the group and the roles that the members play in order to make group succeed in their roles.
Body of the Analysis
One of the behaviors that all the group members must show is teamwork. All group members come up with ideas that can be used to improve the services of the group and the ideas are embraced by all the group members. In case the idea is not found to be better or helpful to the group, it is declined with reasons so that the contributor of the idea will not feel inferior Contribution of ideas is done by all members in all matters.
In most cases, the group members communicate online. The group has an online group that is used to send messages. For instance, if one of them writes a message, he does not need to send it to each group members. Sending to the group will enable all of them to receive the message and they can start giving their contributions about the message that is sent. Other than the online communication, the members also meet two times a year on face- to- face meetings in the country which they choose.
During such meetings, the members discuss the matters that are affecting their group, what they need to do and any other strategy that they can use in order to get better. In such meetings also, they have to agree where they are going to meet next and distribute roles to each other.
The members do not have fixed roles excerpt the top members. Chairperson, the treasurer and the secretary are the only ones who have fixed roles. Apart from them, all the other members are given roles that they think they can do best and each one of them is given to striving so as to make the group successful.
One of the norms that are observed is that the culture that is to be followed should be one and all the other cultures should be thrown away. This is because culture can be a hindrance to better teamwork as some members could be feeling superior to the others. Thus, they should all do away with their cultures and only observe the culture of the group. This will also mean that they will all respect the culture of all the group members and be able to tolerate with them all.
Decisions are made by the whole group. In case there is need to make any decision, the ideas are first laid down by any member who has an idea on that issue. They together, the group members debate the issue at hand and they come to a conclusion. Decision making is not from once source or person but it is a shared responsibility. One member will not be making decisions for the whole group. This is why even the leaders that are chosen are not given any responsibility to control the affairs of the group with a direct control. In fact, they are just in the group as leaders so that they can do the roles of management that cannot be done by a whole group.
The group has to agree on a project before they embark on conducting it. In fact, after identifying the topic, the group members divide the roles among themselves. This is after which they embark on the project making communications from time to time to report on every stage of the project and at least once or twice, they have to meet in order to complete the project. This is to make sure that any arrear that may be in the project has been erased so that it is without any errors whatsoever.
At times, problems are part of the group in any dimension. For instance, the group members may be facing conflicts because of one reason or the other. Such conflicts are not solved online, but when there are face- to- face meetings. This is because all the members should be present when solving any of these conflicts so that no one will think of any bias in solving the conflicts. Solving problems is also a teamwork issue and all the group members must be involved.
Conclusion
A group is only a group when they are able to work together in any issue that is affecting them. Whether in conducting projects or research or even works and assignments, the group members should unite especially in active communication so that they keep each other updated. In addition, the group should practice the type of leadership that supports group work and not the way they want to take the people. All decisions should have been contributed in one way or the other by all the group leaders.
