Interviewer - Hello Lisa and how are you doing today

Participant – I’m doing okay thank you

Interviewer – Good just wanted to review what we talk about last week we talked about

confidential and the HIPPA privacy practice. In our session last week, we also talked about you

feeling grumpy and frustrated can you tell me how your feeling this week.

over not being able to find a job that fits your degree, is this correct. overall can you describe

your mood this week?

Participant – I’m still feeling pretty grump and pretty frustrated. The two jobs I interviewed for

both fell through and that just irritated me a little bit more and I kind of understand some of the

reasons, but I don’t know what to do about it.

Interviewer – Ok so tell me what do you think the reasons are?

Participant – Well, I have no experience in this kind of work, I’m older than all the other

candidates and then the added being blind adds to that so that’s three things against me that

makes it hard to overcome.

Interviewer – Okay, so I’m hearing that one that you think because your older two because your

blind is that correct?

Participant - Yes

Interviewer – Okay so what do you think can be done to possibly do something different in the

interviews even though your feeling like these can be what’s stopping you from being hired?

Participant – In the interviews I do discuss the issue of being blind because when you walk into

the room full of strangers with the white cane it’s very obvious that your blind and although I do

have some sight, I’m not comfortable in strange places without my cane so I take it with me. And

so then before I can open my mouth I’m at a disadvantage and I don’t know where to go I talk to

them during the interview I tell them the plans I made for the situation this is what I can do so

they know that I am capable of doing the job that their requesting but when you add to it that I’m

fifty-five years old that’s another strike because that means not very long I’m going to be looking

at retirement and things like that. And then the inexperience is a serious issue because most

people want someone that can just jump in and take over and no need training and stuff. So, I

don’t know quite how to overcome that.

This was a great time to reflect the client's feelings saying something like, "That is very disappointing and I can see how that would be very frustrating for you."

Interviewer – So it sounds like your struggling with a lot from this, so with that being said and I

know that you want to find a job because you worked so hard getting your degree. We also

talked about a plan B last week, have you been thinking about a plan B.

Participant – No, I was so excited and focused on the other two jobs that I didn’t really think.

The biggest plan B was that I would just finish my education and keep going on interviews

because my main focus is my education and when opportunities come up apply for them and just

because my education is my biggest focus and so that’s my plan B. Just keep doing what I’m

doing.

Interviewer – So it sounds like you plan B still taking you towards trying to find a job where

your using your degree is that correct?

Participant - Yes

Interviewer – So it sounds like a plan you just have to stay focused and do your best. So tell me

Lisa with your frustration and your grumpiness how does that make the overall household feel?

Participant - Everyone kind of gets the grumps along with me they also understand I frustrated

and why I’m frustrated and I have an estimably understand and helpful family that will know just

when I’m grumpy that I still love them and spend time with them, So we’re all kind of looking

forward to me going to Arizona and time to get a vacation for everybody. Me and my husband

getting to spend quality time together for awhile because that’s something between my schooling

and his working and two kids at home that’s something that we don’t get a lot of is just quite one

on one time.

Interviewer – That sounds good I glad you have a helpful family that can see you through these

times. So, we will talk next week

Interviewer - Okay Lisa that's all I have for today I will see you in another session next week

Participant - Okay That sounds good

Interviewer - Thank you for coming in bye-bye

Participant - Bye-bye

Again, this was a great opportunity to reflect feelings. How could you have done that here?

This seemed like a pretty abrupt ending for the session. How did it feel for you?
