On June 11, 2021, Netflix will release 'Skater Girl.' The film has been praised by internet users for being both motivating and unique. Skater Girl is a 2021 Indian-American coming-of-age sports drama film directed by Manjari Makijany. The film was just released on Netflix and has been generating a lot of hype. The audience has had conflicting reactions to it. Jessica's struggles to get funds for the skatepark, and Prerna's attempts to carve out a place in her life where she may skateboard whenever she wants, are shown in the film (this means hiding her skateboard from her parents, sneaking out of the house, etc.). There are numerous interconnected topics on exhibit, such as tradition and resistance, change and opportunity, but the emphasis is mostly on the cultural pressures that girls confront, especially underprivileged girls like Prerna.
But, even with all of that in place, "Skater Girl" is still a fantastic skating film. It captures the iconoclastic freedom and rebellion that skateboarding has long represented, and it joins a long list of rousing skate films and documentaries, including "Minding the Gap" and the Oscar-winning short "Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl)" about the Afghan skateboarding craze (Skater Girl, 2021). Skating's metaphorical potency is a powerful narrative technique, especially in coming-of-age films like "Skater Girl," where skateboarding is amazing and exciting in and of itself, but it's also awesome for what it delivers. Skateboarding isn't so much a path to fame and money as it is an actual open road where you may feel complete freedom, independence, and movement.
Prerna is unable to revert to her dutiful self. Both Jessica and Prerna encounter significant challenges in achieving their objectives. The script's attention to subtlety is one of its strongest points. It would have been simple—and lazy—to make Jessica the town's children's savior, especially Prerna. However, the picture embraces complexity and benefits from it. Prerna must decide whether or not to rescue herself. There's also an intriguing side tale about a local businessman who first refuses to support the skate park but finally agrees because he sees how popular the project would be and that he'll be running for government in the near future. In certain cases, appealing to a person's self-interest is the best option! Jessica and the affluent village grandmother Maharani (the amazing Waheeda Rehman) had a beautiful moment together, two very different women coming together to find common ground.
The young woman from the countryside discovered a life-changing passion that she pursued. The video is timely and noteworthy since it links to Ms Magazine's recent editorial on February 8, 2022 about ending the practice of referring to female skaters as ladies, eradicating the culture, and treating them equally to male skaters whatever their gender and sexuality. The purpose of the role was to promote equality in sports and remove prejudice by providing opportunities for everyone, particularly women, to participate in sports on an equal footing (Carrazana, 2022). The skater girl clip demonstrates the power of women in sports, particularly when given the chance to compete against males who have dominated the field for a long time. Village girls, like the one shown in the skater girl film, deserve the best in our society, and the problem of sports discrimination should be addressed. Village girls, like the one featured in the skater girl film, deserve a chance to demonstrate their abilities to the rest of the world. The video is timely today, as women all over the world strive for equality and to be on par with men in several fields, including sports.
