100 Points

Objectives and Alignment:

2. Students will identify components of adult programming.

3. Students will reflect on the efficacy of adult education organizations, how they develop their programs, and make recommendations on how to improve their offerings.

These assignment objectives align with Course Objective D: Students will be able to identify the major components of responsible programming for adults. This assessment will introduce the idea of program planning and evaluation which will be built upon in ADED 530.

Introduction and Description:

The purpose of this assignment is to get you more familiar with organizations that provide adult education programming. You will be given the opportunity to explore different types of adult learning program websites and compare and contrast their functions and participants.

Assignment:

Your assignment is to find at least two different adult education settings with a web presence, visit their websites, and report on what you find. The web sites you will need analyze should come from the follow categories: Adult Basic Education (GED, Adult Literacy, Adult Basic Education, Financial Literacy, etc.), Workplace Education (Career Readiness, Onsite Training, Skill Training, etc.), Health Education (Nutrition Training, Diabetes Training, Weight-Loss Training, Healthy Living, etc.), and Continuing Education (Computer Skills, Photography, Craft Skills, etc.). You should explore one site in one category and your second site should be from a different category.

This should be found through an internet search. For example, you may find that Health Education is being carried out by hospitals, community education, and gyms. You may find that Workplace Education or training is being provided by specific companies for their employees or by third party providers such as professional trainers. Wherever you may find these places, it is up to you to do so. However, for each web site, please answer the following questions:

1. What is the name of the organization and their website address?

2. How hard was it to identify and locate the education service? Where did you find them?

3. What is the focus of this organization? What kind of services do they offer? Costs?

4. What key words and/or phrases do they use throughout the site that are specific to adult education and adult learning? Justify your response.

5. Who do they seem serve the most? What are the main characteristics of their clients?

6. What do you think are some of the biggest issues they face when working with their population? Why?

7. What are the components of adult education programming that you see at work here?

8. Where do they get their resources? Are they created themselves or do they link to other websites? Do the resources seemed geared towards practitioners or learners or both?

9. Describe the overall website and ease of use.

10. Any additional information relevant to adult education program planning you would like to include.

*If your selected site does not provide enough information to adequately answer the above questions, you should find a different web site/organization.

After answering the above questions for each web site, you will then type up at least a 4-page paper on what you found out (answers to the questions), the strengths and weaknesses of each, their similarities and differences, and your reflection. In your reflection, please connect your paper to our reading assignments (also make recommendations or illustrate elements that are missing that should exist in adult education program planning).

I am looking for in-depth analysis and reporting from you. I want you to critically think about adult education and how programs have different approaches. Compare this with what you are seeing in our readings. When citing resources, be sure to use APA Style Manual, or 7th. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK ME.
