Truman Doctrine Discussion

Truman announced that the United States must support Greece and Turkey in order to prevent them from becoming communist. He said we must do this not because it would be nice for them, but because it was in the national security interest of the United States. What is the logic behind his argument? Do you find Truman's argument persuasive? Why or why not?

The logic behind Truman's argument is support for anti-communist regimes was the primary reason of the foreign policy of the United States and other nations will be able to work free from coercion. Countries tried to impose their will and their way of life upon other nations. I find Truman's argument to be persuasive the U. S. took a leading part in establishing the United Nations to ensure peaceful development of lasting freedom and independence for all nations.

Brown v. Board of Education Discussion

KIMBERLY’S POST:

The Browns received a unanimous 9–0 decision from the Supreme Court in May 1954."Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal," the Supreme Court ruled, implying that laws imposing them violate the Equal Protection Clause of the United States Constitution. However, the Court's second decision in Brown II (349 U.S. 294 (1955)) only ordered states to desegregate "with all deliberate speed," and the 14 pages of the decision did not outline any method for ending racial segregation in schools. State-sanctioned segregation of public schools was a violation of the 14th Amendment and was therefore unconstitutional. This historic decision marked the end of the "separate but equal" precedent set by the Supreme Court nearly 60 years earlier and served as a catalyst for the expanding civil rights movement. It will still be unconstitutional because new research showed that segregating students by "race" was harmful to them, even if facilities were equal, "separate but equal" facilities were found to be unconstitutional in a series of Supreme Court decisions under Chief Justice Earl Warren, starting with Brown v. Board of Education of 1954.
