The problem of Student parking in the school has proved to be a menace that is growing out of hand and may soon be chaotic if not kept in check. But is this problem about to end soon?

With a population of 28,776 students, The school's 300 parking spaces are proving to be too little for the ever growing population of driving students. The WVU transportation department was of the contrary opinion, stating that the parking spaces in the school are in fact underutilized!

Students in the school have been experiencing delays as they move around the school in search of parking spaces for their cars. The students spend at least forty-five minutes looking for parking spaces at the expense of their class time.

Another troubling issue is that the students have had to pay for their parking in the school. This would leave you wondering why one has to pay for parking in their own institution.

In search for these answers, the WVU Transportation and Parking department was sought and interviewed as the information on their website, especially on parking was not enough.

The answers were gotten from Kimberly Hartsell who is the parking director at the department. The answers were not really so much of help as she was too busy to an interview, so the answers had to be gotten from an email.

Kimberly was asked why there was not enough parking or a bigger parking in the downtown area, to which she responded that garages were very expensive to build, to the tune of $15000 per space. She also said that it was a problem as there was no space for more parking.

Kimberly was further asked to explain why students had to pay for parking in their own institution, and the rather straight forward answer was that the school did not offer any free parking, and so everyone, including the employees paid for parking on campus.

When asked about future plans to the number of parking spaces for students, she said she had not heard of any plans, and that Uplace garage was available to students for short term parking.

Kimberly's opinion on the problem of spending forty-five minutes looking for parking was that there was enough parking available, only it was not in prime location. She said that on the Evansdale campus, there was a short term parking at the alumni center and Uplace garage at the downtown campus.

Kimberly further insisted that there was enough parking despite the student population, further saying that the parking in the two campuses was in fact underutilized.
