Audience Analysis:

· Knowledge: The risk of death and serious injury reduces by the help of seatbelts significantly. Seat belts reduce the risk of dying by 45% among drivers and front-seat passengers, while reducing the risk of injury by 50%. People without a seat belt are 30 times more likely to be thrown from a car during a collision.

· Attitudes: Some find it difficult to wear seat belts because it feels uncomfortable and awkward. Others said it was based on the travel form. For example, you will wear one on a long or unknown road, or on a highway.

· Expectations: My audience will attend my speech because it is based on something they encounter in their daily lives.

· Demographics: The audience demographics include teens aged ten to seventeen and adults aged eighteen and above.

· Setting: My speech setting will be the community indoor auditorium with the capacity to hold three hundred people.

Speech Purpose: I expect that by the end of my speech everyone that will have attended it will be wearing a seatbelt whenever they are in a vehicle.

3 Point Thesis Statement: While it is uncomfortable at times, passengers should wear seatbelts to minimize injuries in the event of an accident because it saves lives, it reduces injuries, and it is a mandatory equipment to use.

Introduction:

Getting attention: Every year, seat belts save thousands of lives, and increasing consumption saves thousands more. Nearly 13,000 lives were saved by seat belts in 2009. If all of the drivers and riders had worn seat belts that year, almost 4,000 more people would be alive.

Topic and Purpose: The topic is whether passengers should wear seat belts. The purpose of this topic is to show the audience the importance of wearing seatbelts as a measure of safety.

Main points: The main points include:

· Seat belt rules of primary compliance.

· Seatbelts prevent passengers from becoming projectiles in the case of an accident.

· According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Authority, seat belts minimize severe accident injuries and fatalities by around half.

Relevance: The points above will be expounded on to give you a picture of how your safety is enhanced.

Credibility: I am addressing the topic about seatbelts as a result of the unnecessary fatalities that that has been experienced on the roads.

A. In the event of an accident, the passenger who had not put on his or her seat belt is prone to being launched outside as a result of inertia of motion.

1. Seatbelts prevent passengers from being launched frontwards in the event that an accident happens thereby reducing the chances of the victim becoming more injured.

B. Children who have outgrown car seats should utilize booster seats at least till the age of nine.

1. Booster seats provide ample protection as compared to car seats when putting on safety belts for children

C. Passengers who use both lap and shoulder seat belts in the back of a vehicle have 44% higher rate of surviving in a collision. For rear seat passengers in family vans or SUV cars, this figure can rise to 73 percent.

A. The best way to reduce the risk of fatality in a collision is by wearing a seatbelt.

1. Many individuals ignore using seatbelts as a result of the presence of air bags not knowing that the pressure launched by an airbag in the event a person has not put on a seat belt can kill.

B. Seat belts help you maintain your position during impact while waiting to be rescued.

1. If an accident happens and a person had put on his or her seatbelt the damage as a result of impact would be minimal as compared to if the seatbelt was not there.

C. Not wearing a seatbelt could raise an individual’s insurance rate.

1. Failing to put one a seatbelt and getting a ticket can lead to one’s insurance premium shooting high as a result of being considered a high risk driver,

Conclusion: Those are the few but major reasons as to why passengers should wear seatbelts.
