Why have you chosen to apply to this university? (350 words)

Living in metropolitan city gives me many different options for my undergraduate studies. But, University of Texas at Dallas is known for its best value education where they focus more on academics and give out best education. Secondly, its affordability increases my curiosity to study as there is no need to take care of tuition fees. Also, living in touch with my family increases my inspiration to complete my bachelor’s degree. And all these things are only possible by attending to University of Texas at Dallas. So, I choose UTD, which have the potential to make my dreams come true of getting best and affordable education.

Why have you chosen your academic major? (350 words)

Technology is increasing day-by-day with innovative ideas to develop them. And I am also interested in I took several courses relating software engineering and they seem to be very comfortable with me. I was interested in those classes so, I choose software engineering as my major.

It has been our experience that every transfer/non-traditional student has a story to tell about their background and the road they have taken to get to this point. Some did not complete high school but received their GED. Some went directly from high school to community colleges. Others went from high school to the military or work force. Still others describe a particular event or moment when they discovered what they wanted to achieve and what was needed to accomplish their goals. Please tell us the story of your journey to arrive at the decision to study at your chosen university. (750 words )

Each student has their unique stories to tell which could simple in others observation but a struggle in students’ life. Similarly, I have a unique experience in my life for which I choose University of Texas at Dallas for my higher education. My family and I emigrated from India in 2015, where I completed my sophomore year of high school. Upon arriving to United States, I went to High school in mesquite, Texas, where I completed my junior and senior years of high school. I was very surprised and sad about the difference between two countries life styles and education. I felt very disturbed as it took a while to understand the pronunciation of American English. But still I used my limited resources that I had at that time to make my voice understandable to other by practicing. A time came when all students were required to fill out college applications to move forward from high school. I also filled out applications to various colleges and universities but got rejected from most of them. Even the universities that accepted me didn’t gave scholarship as my grades were at base line as I only did two years in high school. So, I was unable to afford the tuitions of universities that accepted me. And then I had a conversation with my counselor regarding this issue and my councilor gave me a advice to start my college life by attending a community college. I also had no idea about college life of The United States, so I decided to attend Richland community college in Dallas,TX. By attending a community college, I got experience of community and a college life to which I was not ready at the end of high school. My parents worked in Dallas and they have no fluency with English, so I help them in their work life. And in this situation, I cannot leave town for my higher studies and I decided to attend University of Texas at Dallas. I did research on my major of software engineering in UTDallas and found it perfectly fits my need. After completing my all requirements, I applied to UTDallas and I got admitted. After achieving my target of getting into UTDallas I feel very proud for myself for achieving that success with help of my parents in an unfamiliar culture when came back in 2015.

My Richland College’s counselor was always influential instrumental person on my decision to attend University of Texas at Dallas. Besides my counselor my parents were very helpful and influential in my decision. They stood next to me in my ups and downs in my journey till UTDallas. They encouraged me to attend university without worrying the cost of attendance.

Transfer/non-traditional students often tell us that their prior experience has taught them lessons that helped them to be successful. What lessons have you learned that you would like to pass on to other students? (~400 word )

I personally believe that no human being is perfect in each field or performing tasks. When I arrived to United States, I had a fear of language barrier. And that came out to be true in my college English course. I failed my class due to several things that I was unaware but the most important my essays were made of basic and simple ideas. It lacked critical thinking and vocabulary. After failing the course, I took it again and did practice of writing essays as much as I can with all the abilities that I had. But still got a C grade in my second attempt. My third attempt lead me to A in class. After failing to get success twice I wrote down all my weak points from last two attempts and stated working on them and got success. I had unbreakable confidence in me that I can do it. It took me three tries, but this confidence led me to my success. So, I want all students should have a strong self-assurance and I am sure it will lead to everyone to their success. I also believe that by having a confidence in yourself you can be successful because I have been one.
