Your Name: __________ _______________ ID #
Specific Purpose: To tell my audience _about my product__________________________
AUDIENCE RELEVANCE:
I have created a product that appeals to college students of any major, as long as you eat food and study, even if it is just occasionally.
SPEAKER CREDIBILITY:
As a college student myself, I understand the desire for food, but also the overwhelming sense of always having schoolwork to do.
THESIS STATEMENT:
My product, the StudyWave, is going to change the way college students experience school from now on.
ENUMERATED PREVIEW:
First I am going to break down StudyWave. What is it? How can it help? Then, I am going to inform you of the ways that my product will not only encourage better study habits, but also encourage better eating habits too.
BODY
I. StudyWave is the microwave/study-aid hybrid that you did not know you needed.
a. Microwave
i. Shaped like a standard microwave and fits the size limits found in a dorm.
b. Tutor
i. The built in screen on the microwave gives the user multiple choice questions that relate to whatever courses the student is enrolled in.
c. Hybrid Technology
i. For every 5 questions answered correctly, 30 seconds is added to the microwave. Need to microwave a hot pocket? Be prepared to answer 20 multiple choice questions.
TRANSITION:
Now, obviously microwaves are mostly utilized to cook food, so let’s break down the benefits of using the StudyWave for food consumption.
II. Using the Microwave for food
a. Food accessibility
i. According to a survey of college students, if food is readily available, the temptation of stress-eating is high (Stress, 2017).
b. Weight gain
i. Everybody knows about the “freshman 15”, but the StudyWave makes it so students cannot easily eat 4 servings of pizza rolls while stalling on their homework. The multiple choice questions make it so students are forced to be productive and cannot continue microwaving more food unless they answer more question.
c. Students love food
i. According to an observation made while in school, not all students decide to eat in the dining halls, if that is an option in the first place. Many students would rather eat something quick and easy cooked in a microwave. Students love food, so they should love this microwave hybrid(P., 2017).
TRANSITION:
Now to the other part of the hybrid that often causes less excitement than talking about food; let’s talk about studying.
II. Studying is vital to college students
a. Students can be motivated to study by other things.
i. In another survey, I found that if students had an incentive to study (other than a good grade), such as going out with friends, or having a night in, they were more likely to get their studying over with (Study, 2017).
b. It is a well-known fact that studying is important to college students
i. Grades are typically lower for those that admit to not studying, while students who take time daily to study tend to succeed.
c. While some students succeed while studying using physical books, a large majority of students have gotten used to studying using technology.
i. The layout of questions and quizzes in the StudyWave is the same as that found in resources students are already using to study online.
CONCLUSION
As you can see, StudyWave is the new technology that will help college students experience college in a new way.
SUMMARY:
StudyWave is the easy to use microwave/study-aid that is beneficial to students of all ages and majors. Not only is the technology easy to use and comparable to the technology students are already using, but it hits the most important things for students; food and studying. As mentioned previously, the microwave portion obviously cooks food, but only after a student answers a certain number of questions.
CLINCHER:
As someone who is a student and constantly needing to study, but also highly motivated by food, I can guarantee that the StudyWave is the best new addition to any student’s household. You are doing your future-self a favor by utilizing the StudyWave now. Enjoy some snacks and get your study on.
