Revised 6/7/18
Qualitative Methods Quantitative Methods Program Evaluation Mixed Methods
Primary method is Qualitative Quantitative
Working Title (12 words or less): The impact of hybrid learning in education
Problem Statement Provide a one- to two-paragraph statement that is the result of a review of research findings and current practice and that contains (a) a logical argument for the need to address a gap in practice (if a project study) or a gap in knowledge about practice (if a dissertation) that has relevance to the discipline; and, (b) preliminary evidence that provides justification that this problem is meaningful to the area of professional practice. Provide three to five key citations that highlight the relevance and currency of the problem. Ensure the topic fits your specialization.
Hybrid models vary in their execution some have students coming in only a few days per week, while others split students into morning and afternoon groups (Oliver, 2005) . This is not a good learning tool for young children. It can be very challenging for both teacher and studets. In fact, the benefits of collaborative learning include increased social interaction, embedded knowledge, and long term retention (Neelakandan, 2021. Also some people may not be good at technology.
Purpose Statement Present a concise, one-paragraph statement on the overall purpose or intention of the study, which serves as the connection between the problem being addressed and the focus of the study.
• In quantitative studies, state what needs be studied by describing two or more factors (variables) and a conjectured relationship among them related to the identified gap in practice or problem.
• In qualitative studies, describe the need for increased understanding about the issue to be studied, based on the identified gap or problem.
• In mixed-methods studies, with both quantitative and qualitative aspects, clarify how the two approaches will be used together to inform the study.
Students spend less time seated in a classroom listening to lectures and are instead encouraged to explore online and learn from their peers. Issues lack of hands on activites, student engagement, and lack of technology.
Possible Research Question(s) List possible research questions that show potential to address your stated problem, which will lead to the development of what needs to be done in this study and how it will be accomplished. Recall that
• The research question should not be too broad or too narrow. • The research question must be researchable. • The research question should be neutral and not leading. • The research question must be directly investigable using the research tools at hand. • The research question avoids yes/no questions no matter what the approach. • Research questions often begin with “How” or “What.”

FAQ about Doctoral Committee Assignment Forms (DCAFs)
1. Why do I need to complete a DCAF? You need to provide the info so your specialization leadership can assign a professor
who is an expert in your topic area and a professor who is an expert in your methodology.
2. Why does the program assign a professor to me; can’t I pick my own? You can request your own professor, but not all professors are always available. Your
specialization leadership knows dozens of professors and can find the strongest one in your topic and/or methodology.
3. Can I request my own chair or committee member? Yes, and we will do our best to get the person you desire; but, be aware of the following
realities - i. The most popular professors tend to be taken first
ii. Not all professors may be assigned by your specialization iii. The specialization leadership might know someone who is stronger in your topic
than the professor you request.
4. I submitted a DCAF at my residency. Does that count? No, the residency DCAF assignment was only used for a residency grade, not for your
committee assignment. This is intentional because you should have refined your research problem since then. You must submit the DCAF in this class in order to receive a committee assignment.
5. I’m not completely sure what I want in my capstone yet. What do I do? By now, you should at least have a tentative problem, purpose, and possible research
questions. You can change them later; so do your best. Complete the DCAF fully and leave nothing blank.
6. Do I need to use references in the text? How old can they be? Every statement must be evidenced by a citation from research findings that was
published in a peer-reviewed research journal within the last 5 years. Two exceptions to this rule
i. Local evidence does not need to be published in a peer-reviewed journal ii. Theoretical or ground-breaking research can usually be older than 5 years
7. I’m not sure when I will take EDDD 8900 Completing the Prospectus. How do I find out? Contact your academic advisor at [email protected].
