SHADOW THE LEADER PROJECT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Your report should be typed in paragraph form and double-spaced. The length of your
report will be dictated by how thorough you have been in the interviewing and
observation or your leader.
Your findings will surface not only because of what your leader tells you, but what you
conclude yourself through careful observation.
My hope is that this assignment is more than just paperwork for you. Its purpose is to
provide you an opportunity to take “leadership” out of the text and see it come to life.
Consider the following questions as you interview your chosen leader:
What is your leadership philosophy? Theory X? Theory Y?
Do you encourage subordinates/followers to participate in decision-making?
Are you a visionary? What is your vision for your organization? How did you
develop this vision?
How do you motivate your employees?
How do you encourage them to achieve the goals of the organization? How do
you determine the goals of the organization?
How do you instill a sense of ethics in your organization? How do you handle
unethical behavior?
How do you resolve conflict?
How important is teamwork? How is it developed?
Do you empower your employees? How? Example?
How do you handle your employees’ resistance to change?
What is servant leadership?
Define leadership.
What characteristics are essential to be an effective leader?
Observe your leader. Talk to others who work with him/her. Are their comments
compatible with the leaders’ comments? Which character depicted in the various class
videos best exemplifies the leader you have chosen to shadow?
