Race refers to people who share set of physical characteristics, such as skin color, hair texture, eye shape, etc. Ethnicity refers to people who share a common culture, such as being Hispanic.
Race is socially constructed, meaning that race is not a biological category. If you look at our DNA (genetics), there is not enough difference between people to differentiate us into different “races.” The differences we see, like skin color, are surface-level, but not biological/genetic.
Anti-miscegenation laws prohibited people from marrying interracially. These state laws were struck down by the Supreme Court in 1967, although some states kept their law on the books until much later (like Alabama 2000).
