Service project article for first year dental students

Sympathy is a trait that is inherent to humans among many other creatures, every human is born with it; however, the way they react to it is what makes the difference, this reaction could be as simple as spoken words to a very generous donation, the collaboration of each individual effort will aid in creating a better, coherent and self-developing community.

Unfortunately, we do not live in the Kingdom of god, today we see a lot of devastation around the world, many people need help for various reasons and sometimes just a simple effort will make a huge difference in other person’s life.

I’ve been through rough times myself when I was back home in Iraq I was forced to leave my home, but luckily I was given another chance or a new life when I came to the U.S., I felt how that effort by the good people here in the U.S. changed my life for good, this feeling made me think more about helping people around me.

As a future dentist I plan to help people who do not have access to dental care, regardless of the reasons behind it, I believe that will have a major impact on their quality of life, because I’ve seen people suffer dental pain and they couldn’t afford to see a dentist It was just devastating, my plan is to work some days during the month to treat poor or homeless patients ; furthermore I plan to participate in events where dental care is lacking like in rural areas that are underserved.

As a dental student I try to participate in community service events to help people as much as I can, starting from educating people in my community about dental health and the importance of oral health as an integral part of general well-being, being a part of American student dental association (ASDA) help me in keeping up with service projects while I am a student in dental school.
