Introduction

Vision is a remarkable sense that enables us to observe our surroundings.

Light enters the eye through the cornea, travels through the lens, and is then focused onto the retina.

The photoreceptors (rods and cones) in the retina are specialized cells that transform light into electrical messages.

The visual cortex of the brain receives these impulses and transmits them via the optic nerve.

These impulses are processed by our brain to give rise to our sense of the outside world, which includes information about things like color, shape, and motion.

Vision Disorder

A vision disorder, also known as a visual impairment or a visual disorder, is a medical illness that interferes with the visual system's normal operation, making it harder or impossible to see.

These conditions can have an impact on one or more visual system parts, such as the eyes, optic nerves, or visual processing centers in the brain.

Cataracts are a prevalent condition linked to eyesight loss (Labetoulle, Rousseau, & Baudouin, 2019).

Vision blurring cataracts happen when the eye's lens becomes clouded, blocking the transmission of light.

This disorder may be brought on by ageing or by genetics, trauma, or chronic UV radiation exposure.

Many people who have cataract surgery are able to see clearly again because the hazy lens is replaced with an artificial one.

Research on Vision

Advancement in artificial vision is a topic of ongoing research in the field of vision.

To improve or restore vision for people with visual impairments, scientists are creating technology like smart glasses and retinal implants (Chandler and Fuller, 2023).

It has led to advancements in neuroscience and computer vision to better understand how the brain processes visual information.

These researches and advancements have made it possible for more people to be able to see.

Vision and Quality of Life

Our quality of life is strongly impacted by vision.

Regular eye exams and safeguarding our eyes from UV rays and damage are crucial to maintaining eye health.

Also, creating awareness on the significance of eye health and vision health is important in maintaining eye health.

It is a gift to be able to see and appreciate the world, and by comprehending how vision functions and encouraging study, we may contribute to the betterment of individuals who suffer from vision problems.

Personal Reflection

Vision serves as our main informational resource for the outside world, which is what I find most fascinating about it.

Vision allows us to read these words, appreciate the beauty of the natural world, and make eye contact with others.

It is truly amazing how quickly and efficiently the brain can interpret visual data, allowing us to recognize people, find our way around, and take in the beauty of the world and its wonders.
