IP 3 Senior Capstone
Graded
***NOTE: You will re-use and improve upon this exact same paper in IP3 in the following sequence: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v6uAvECj1zvmd5kFzBhFu-gj-akH056V/view?usp=sharing
This is a good job on identifying a criminal justice topic to study for the remainder of this course. You will use the exact same topic in assignments 3 and 4 (a PowerPoint) and 5. Below are recommendations that should be applied to your IP3 paper. Here are your next steps:
1. For your Unit 3 paper, correct ALL of the identified errors in the IP1 paper. The errors will be listed in the grade book and/or they will be emailed to you.
2. Add an introductory paragraph and a conclusion paragraph into your IP3 paper. Here is a sneak preview of your IP3 instructions: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1H8aYQ66iysFXqsAAypgeMlukePlW2FYN/view?usp=sharing
3. When you are finished editing your IP1 paper, then re-upload it as your IP3 paper.
Below are administrative recommendations that should be applied to your final IP3 paper. Keep up the good work.
LATE: This assignment is authorized to be turned in late to help meet the needs of the student. The penalty is governed by AIU's standardized late policy (effective January 11, 2017). The policy may not be amended or edited for individual usage. Assignments that are submitted within 7 calendar days, after the due date, will be assessed a 10% penalty off of the total assignment's points. Break weeks are excluded from the formula. (10 points).
PARAGRAPH INDENTING: The beginning sentence of some of the paragraphs are indented a full inch, which is too much. The beginning sentence of each paragraph should only be indented a half inch. If you hit the TAB key, it should automatically indent it a half inch for you. If you would like to see a sample indent, then click on the following link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16ala2GmHZ6j-PXqQk-_mbJ3UHHl0QLv6/view?usp=sharing (1 point).
RESEARCH QUESTIONS: There are no fully developed research questions. Please visit the following link to see how to develop research questions: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0QmECZPnLPhaW1kWnA0RnBaelE/view?usp=sharing&resourcekey=0-VgzAt0H4x8BtUbiG4o33oQ (2 points).
MEASUREMENTS & ANALYSIS: There is a section titled “measurement and analysis,” but it needs to be more robust to show three things. FIRST: Exactly what kind of data or information will be collected? SECOND: “How” will you measure or analyze the information (data) that you find? Will statistics be “compared and contrasted”? Will statistics prove or disprove something? Will you discuss it from a qualitative perspective – or a quantitative perspective – or from both perspectives? Please be more robust and specific in your “measurement & analysis” section of your paper. Please write more. Writing the “measurement and analysis” section is the hardest part of the capstone assignment. It’s the hardest thing you will ever do in college. If you go to graduate school, then you will have to master this area of your research. Here is a website that discusses how to write a “measurement and analysis” section: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZuEPPZGgIj-O7iLqzpUnQar4bZK5GSd1/view?usp=sharing (4.5 points).
ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY INDENTING: The annotated bibliography needs to be formatted or indented in a specific way. It has minor errors. You can see samples at this website: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0QmECZPnLPhNVBxMDRkbHY3Tmc/view?usp=sharing&resourcekey=0-V7YWI3lw-_YAVswwFaJSaA (2 points).
ETHICAL STANDARDS SECTION: Regarding the ethics section of your paper, do you need approval from a university Institutional Review Board (IRB) before you conduct your academic research? Yes or no? Why or why not? Here is a website that explains ethical considerations: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZUt_d_kTBd0C9DraTQUg1g9RMslMHmyZ/view?usp=sharing (3 points)
ROBUST REFERENCES: The annotated bibliography in IP1 and IP3 required at least five sources. Subsequently, there should be at least five references at the end of the paper, but there are not. (2.5 points)
General overview comments: This project is designed to culminate in the selection of a final topic that is to be explored in assignments IP1, IP3 and IP5 in the near future. In electing a topic that is worthy to be studied, problematic issues in the public sector and/or the private sector should be considered. Your chosen topic is designed to have a thesis statement to identify the problem or the issue that you will study. It subsequently should include a study of a hypothetical situation (and a hypothesis) to determine possible outcomes to proposed theories. There should also be a quantitative or qualitative discussion of “measurements and analysis,” to include applicable resources (also known as an annotated bibliography). Lastly, ethical standards should be reviewed, to include a discussion of Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements.
