Thesis Statement: Self -awareness plays a major role in emotional intelligence
Topic Sentence 1: What is self-awareness?
Quote 1: Emotional Self-Awareness is the ability to understand your own emotions and their effects on your performance (Goleman, 2017).
Quote 2: Self-awareness is being able to understand one's emotions and the effect it has on their performance. It is the ability to know how, what, and why you feel a particular type of way and this helps you to be more decisive when making plans (Ackerman, 2020).
Quote 3: Self-awareness is the foundational block of building many other healthy habits because it is the ability to become introspective, observe yourself in a meta-cognitive level, and make the changes you desire (Bogdanos, 2018).
Topic Sentence 2: How does self-awareness affect an individual’s life?
Quote 1: It can make us more proactive, boost our acceptance, and encourage positive self-development (Sutton, 2016).
Quote 2: Emotional Self-Awareness isn’t something that you achieve once. Every moment is an opportunity to be self-aware or not. It is a continual endeavor, a conscious choice to be self-aware. The good news is that the more you practice it, the easier it becomes (Goleman, 2017).
Quote 3: It leads to better decision-making (Ridley, Schutz, Glanz, & Weinstein, 1992).
Topic sentence 3: Why is self-awareness important in emotional intelligence?
Quote 1: Self-awareness is a necessary building block of emotional intelligence; it is the building block upon which the rest of the components are built (Ackerman, 2020).
Quote 2: The benefits of self-awareness are vast and wonderful because you become less reactive and more mindful in your decisions because you are looking at the “why” behind them (Bogdanos, 2018).
Quote 3: Self-awareness allows us to see things from the perspective of others, practice self-control, work creatively and productively, and experience pride in ourselves and our work as well as general self-esteem (Silvia & O’Brien, 2004).
