Research description
The research focuses on determining the issue of depression among Muslim women in Yonkers, New York during pre and post pregnancy. This study is based on a community based model. With the increased prevalence of mental health problems across in the United States, there is a need to develop more knowledge and insight on the topic area. This plays a major role in ensuring individuals and societies understand the nature of the problem and ways to manage and control the crisis. The main reason for targeting the Muslim women during in their pregnancy journey is because there has been limited focus on this population with less scholars and researchers focusing on determining distinct problems associated with the population (Savory et al, 2021). Also, there has been past researchers focus on the issue of mental health but there has been existent research gap in the determining the effectiveness of Community Based Model as a metric to focus on the mental health are. In using this model, the research study will involve the use of a participatory decision-making model that aims at creating emphasis on the members of the community in improving the health of the individual members. There is the issue of including all members of the society from collecting data on the prevalence of the mental health issues to the potential interventions that can be used in addressing mental health problems.
Hypothesis
The hypotheses used in the research topic are derived from the research questions used for the project. The research question involves determining the prevalence of depression among Muslim women from a community based model context.
There are two main hypotheses that are tested in the study from the data collected. The hypotheses include the null hypothesis and alternate hypothesis.
H1: Based on community based model, there is a high prevalence of depression among Muslim women in Yonkers, New York during pre and post pregnancy.
H0: Based on community based model, there no high prevalence of depression among Muslim women in Yonkers, New York during pre and post pregnancy
H2: Community plays a major role in promoting mental health among women during and after pregnancy.
Project goals and objectives
Goals
The research project is based on two main goals:
· To determine the level of depression among Muslim women in Yonkers, New York during pre and post pregnancy journey.
· To investigate the effectiveness of a Community Based Model in promoting mental health among Muslim American women during pre and post pregnancy journey.
Objectives
|
Objective: To determine prevalence of mental health issues during and after pregnancy. |
|
|
Specific |
The objective focuses at determining depression mental health problem cases reported relating to women who are either pregnant or those who have delivered within one year. |
|
Measurable |
The objective is measured on basis of number of cases reported per year in the last five years. |
|
Achievable |
The objective is attainable as every member of the project team will be assigned tasks to reduce overall workload and enhance efficiency. |
|
Realistic |
The objective is relevant in attaining the research goal on determine the level of mental health in the community among women who are either pregnant or those that have just delivered. |
|
Timely |
The objective is to be attained within two 8 months of extensive research and preparation of a report on the case |
|
Objective: To determine the community-oriented interventions that can be used in promoting mental health among women during and after pregnancy. |
|
|
Specific |
The objective involves evaluating the components of a community based model and determining the role of community in addressing various mental health issues. This involves exploring mental health factors and determining which of the factors are as a result of forces within the community. |
|
Measurable |
The objective is measured based on the number of interventions that can be used in addressing the mental health problems in the society. |
|
Achievable |
It is possible to attain the objective through conducting research on what factors that contribute to mental health among women during pregnancy and whether the factors have anything to do with the community. This forms a foundation to establishing how the mental health problem factors can be reduced or eliminated in efforts to eliminate mental health problems among pregnant women. |
|
Realistic |
The relevance of the objective is that it contributes to knowledge and insight on the effectiveness of community based model as a source of data and a resource to addressing mental health issues in the society. |
|
Timely |
The objective can be attained within two weeks if the research on these activities and data collected from community sources is done simultaneously. |
Activities
In conducting the research, the project team intends to propose partnership with healthcare forums and initiatives such as Happy People 2030 Initiative. This will enhance the ability to explore healthcare data and communities in collection of data.

Specific outcomes
The outcome of this research is to have clear knowledge and insight on the role played by the community and the members of society in promoting mental health among Muslim American women during pre and post pregnancy journey. This population has low access to healthcare as a result of religious bias in healthcare facilities (Savory et al, 2021). This contributes to higher prevalence of mental health problems such as depression. Therefore, focusing on the population provides an opportunity to elevate the level of awareness and healthcare accessibility. Also, the research aims at ensuring there is a clear understanding of the prevailing level of mental health awareness in the Muslim community in Yonkers, New York as the foundation to campaigning for the strategies that should be promoted among the members of the community in promoting mental health among the population.
Method
Data will be collected from the members of the society through questionnaires and interviews. Interviews will be conducted on representatives of focus groups that will be created in conducting the research. Also, past research data and statistics in determining prevalence of mental health issues among women during pregnancy will be collected through the use of document and journal analysis. After data collection, analysis will be done after which interpretations and conclusions will be made. It is at this point that the desired outcome will be realized. The wide pool of data resources enhances reliability and validity of the study which are paramount in realizing the goal of the research (Barletta et al, 2020).
Evaluation
The project will be measured using Gantt chart where each of the activity will be matched with the proposed timeline to determine whether the goal or objective or the activity was attained (Aghera et al, 2018).
