Theories in nursing refer to set of principle used to define the scientific framework which guides the nurses. In this case, such theories are vital in understanding the core principles of the nursing as a profession and offer the opportunity to understand theory roles within the health care setting. It is worth mentioning that the nursing theory provides the foundational knowledge of care concepts that enables nurses to explain their actions and justification when preparing care plans and selection of intervention. Thus, all nursing practice should be based on the theory since it helps improve the quality of nursing care, improve nursing knowledge, and improving the quality of life among patients.
Health care quality is subject to intense criticism and debate; hence, nursing care is of crucial importance. Quality nursing improve aspect of quality management with specific focus on patient safety. Unfortunately, the improvement in the quality of nursing care is relatively slow, which compromises patient outcomes (Burhans & Alligood, 2010). Younas and Quennell (2019) assert that nursing theories can be used to offer insight on how to deal with clinical situation and why certain approaches are preferred. In this regard, basing nursing practices supported by nursing theory can increase the quality of nursing care, which in turn results in better patient outcomes.
