Searching for Articles

A good lit review requires that you obtain the most relevant peer reviewed articles on your topic. Don’t use a typical (i.e. “google”) web search for this. Instead, use the databases available through the UWA library webpage. That is, if you're not already using these resources.

1. Go to the UWA Library homepage

2. Then find the databases heading on the right side of the page and click by subject

3. Then click on psychology

4. From the list of resources, I'd start with the PsycARTICLES database.

5. After searching the Psycarticles database, you should click on the “choose databases” link and add Academic Search Premier. This is a very comprehensive database and you should definitely look here for additional articles.

6. Academic Search Premier is a much larger database and includes a wide range of categories of media, thus, I recommend you check the “peer reviewed” box to limit your search to appropriate sources.

Important Note: Some articles you find in Academic Search Premier will not be available in full-text format. If so, you can always request an article via interlibrary loan, however I’ve often found full text access available in google scholar. Just copy the title of the article from the uwa database screen and paste it into google scholar search bar.
