Class in the 20th and 21st century
Between the twentieth century and twenty-first century the United States experienced industrial triumph. The growing of industries and agricultural supremacy attracted many foreign immigrants to the United States. Many poor Europeans, South Americans among others came to America with an aim of earning wages (Head, 2013).
This saw the rise of wealthy persons and saw the start of class struggle across the American country. The Americans wanted to instill their culture to the immigrants while the immigrants like Nicola Sacco resisted the move. This triggered severe rivalry between the hosts and the immigrants.
Immigrants were much isolated by the American people and sometimes even received inhuman treatment. They would work for long hours over very low wages. Job security was also not guaranteed as one would lose his job anytime. This was a challenge in class attainment within the United States although this changed as time went by.
Over time the blacks were very much unrepresented in positions of power, authority, and ownership as compared to their white counterpart. This shows that racial disparity in class attainment didn't change just at once. Gender discrimination, especially among blacks and other non-American citizens, did not also seem to change significantly in class attainment in the country. Foreign women were denied positions of authority and also right to own property.
The rise of workers unions and women unions in particular to an extent aided in the attainment of class equality. These unions united especially the immigrants of the twentieth century to stand on their feet and fight oppression of the American employers. The children of the first arrivals of the immigrants demanded equal positions of power and the right to own property. This marked the beginning of a class change in the United States (Dykes, 2000).
Religion freedom was a sign of class change as the foreigners were given a chance to worship freely. Non-Americans could now own property and even execute authority something which was very much impossible by the begging of the twentieth century and earlier. Gender differences in class attainment were a challenge between the two centuries. The male was more likely to hold authority leadership position than the female. But with the rising of women groups and unions, this actually changed as women were now included in leadership positions.
The United States has actually come from very far in class attainment. And throughout the years, the class in different aspects has really changed. Things are done differently as compared to the twentieth century. Respect for all people is now very common among the United States citizens and the foreigners (Chavez, 2013). Everyone can hold positions of power in the developed nation and can also be the owner of their own property without any form of discrimination whatsoever.
