Welcome to the class and thank you for your work on Assessment 1. In this paper, teenage pregnancy is analyzed as a health concern for teenagers. Negative health risks associated with early pregnancy are noted for the infant but what about the teenage mother? Goals are noted but further definition is warranted, to include hypothetical participants agreement to and/or collaboration in forming the goals. Detailed feedback has been provided for each criterion listed in the scoring rubric. Take time to review and contact me if there are any questions. With revisions, please HIGHLIGHT in YELLOW revised content. I like where you are going with this - just push a little more!

COMPETENCY 1

Analyze health risks and health care needs among distinct populations.

CRITERION

Analyze a community health concern or need that is the focus of a health promotion plan.

Your result: Proficient

Distinguished

Provides an in-depth analysis of a community health concern or need that is the focus of the health promotion plan, and articulates underlying assumptions and points of uncertainty in the analysis.

Proficient

Analyzes a community health concern or need that is the focus of a health promotion plan.

Basic

Identifies a community health concern or need that is the focus of a health promotion plan.

Non-Performance

Does not identify a community health concern or need that is the focus of a health promotion plan.

Faculty Comments:

Met proficient performance level by analyzing teen pregnancy as a health concern. Teen pregnancy rates are noted and supported by literature. What are some assumptions and/or points of uncertainty related to teen pregnancy? Keep up the hard work!

COMPETENCY 2

Propose health promotion strategies to improve the health of populations.

CRITERION

Explain why a health concern or need is important for health promotion within a specific population.

Your result: Non-Performance

Distinguished

Explains why a health concern or need is important for health promotion within a specific population. Conclusions are well supported by current and relevant population health and demographic data and based on a perceptive analysis of the factors that contribute to health, health disparities, and access to services.

Proficient

Explains why a health concern or need is important for health promotion within a specific population. Conclusions are not supported by relevant or current health data.

Basic

Describes a health concern or need that is important for health promotion within a specific population.

Non-Performance

Does not describe a health concern or need that is important for health promotion within a specific population.

Faculty Comments:

Does not meet criterion; there is no description of health concerns related to teenage pregnancy. Be sure to review the scoring rubric as paper is prepared/revised so all elements of a criterion are addressed. Noted in the paper are health risks for infants when born to a teenage mother; what health risks can a teenage mother face during/post pregnancy? To attain a higher performance level, explain why teenage pregnancy is a health concern and support conclusions with literature. You are on the right track.

CRITERION

Establish agreed-upon health goals in collaboration with hypothetical participants.

Your result: Non-Performance

Distinguished

Establishes agreed-upon health goals in collaboration with hypothetical participants. Goals are realistic, measurable, and attainable.

Proficient

Establishes agreed-upon health goals in collaboration with hypothetical participants.

Basic

Establishes health goals without hypothetical participant collaboration.

Non-Performance

Does not establish agreed-upon health goals in collaboration with hypothetical participants.

Faculty Comments:

In this presentation, I could not find establishment of agreed-upon goals made in collaboration with hypothetical participants. Please review the scoring rubric as assessments are prepared so all elements of the criterion are addressed. Goals are listed in this paper but they do not apply to educational program that is part of this health promotion plan. Note that the goals listed as part of an educational program will be presented as a PPT for Assessment 4. To pass this criterion, I suggest the following as part of the education part of the health promotion plan: (1) establish a hypothetical person/group vignette that needs education on teenage pregnancy - I suggest accessing teenagers in low income areas; (2) With this group/person, form SMART goals that will be addressed during the education session - i.e. teenagers will identify 3 health risks they may face during/post pregnancy, by the end of the session; (3) be sure to document that the agreed-upon health goals were established in collaboration with hypothetical participants. By doing these 3 steps, a higher performance level can be attained. I know you can do this!

COMPETENCY 3

Apply professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead health promotion and improve population health.
