SCML 4170 - Financial Issues in Supply Chain Management Project

Application of DuPont Model

This project is open book, open note, open classmate (up to 2 students per team). You must

properly cite all sources of information in a reference page at the end of your report. This

assignment is subject to electronic evaluation via the Turnitin.com module in D2L. Any uncited

materials will be treated as plagiarism (see syllabus for policy on academic integrity).

Conduct research to populate an excel spreadsheet(s) of the DuPont model for these three

situations:

1. For one company, compare the most currently reported year with a previous year (up to 5

years previous). Comment on all the differences you find. What could have caused them?

2. For two companies that compete in the same product/market segments, compare one to the

other on one spreadsheet. Comment on the differences you find. Why are they different?

You can google for annual reports or 10K forms from specific companies. Also, Bloomberg,

Yahoo Finance. Market Watch, and other financial websites may have several years of income

statements and balance sheets conveniently presented in a single table. You can try Googling your

company’s financial statement (e.g., “Home Depot Income Statement”).

The report should include a printed spreadsheet and your written, single-spaced comments for each

of these two situations. I expect at least 1-2 full pages of written analysis to accompany each

scenario, not including the spreadsheet figure.

This project is due in accordance with the course syllabus, via D2L Assignments. Late submissions

will not be accepted (refer to syllabus for policy). You should turn in:

1. Written report prepared in MS Word format. For each scenario, include a graphic of the

completed DuPont model.

(Use the “Technical Report Template.docx”)

2. Completed DuPont model worksheet for each scenario, saved in a single Excel file.

(Use the “DuPont Model Template.xlsx”)

STUDENT CONDUCT

 Academic integrity is of paramount importance at Clayton State University. Students are

expected to abide by the Student Code of Conduct as outlined in the University’s official

Student Handbook. Anyone failing to abide by this code will automatically receive a grade of

“F”.

 Cheating is the actual or attempted practice of fraudulent or deceptive acts for the purpose of

improving one’s grade or obtaining course credit; such acts also include assisting another

student to do so. Typically, such acts occur in relation to examinations. However, it is the intent

of this definition that the term "cheating" not be limited to examination situations only, but that

it include any and all actions by a student that are intended to gain an unearned academic

advantage by fraudulent or deceptive means. This would include forging official forms (e.g.,

grade sheets) and documents (e.g., transcripts). Plagiarism is a specific form of cheating which

consists of the misuse of the published and/or unpublished works of others by misrepresenting

the material (i.e., their intellectual property) so used as one’s own work.

 Any incident of cheating or plagiarism (regardless of its magnitude) will result in a minimum

of failing grade for the entire course.
