Scientist 5
Hi All,
Throughout this unit we have included some biographies of scientists working in the fields of study that we have covered in this class. We would like to hear what you think about their work, their story, and how it relates to your life. Please choose one scientist from the unit and write a short reflection paragraph in your own words (less than 250 words).
This is a reflection, not a test of knowledge. We are most interested in hearing why you chose the scientist and why their work is meaningful or interesting to you.

•1995 Postdoc in cancer genetics, at Natl. Human Genome Research Institute NIH
•1994 Ph.D. in Human Genetics, Ohio State University
Early pioneer in understanding the role of biology in cancer incidence and mortality rates among underrepresented populations. Through his leadership, The African American Hereditary Prostate Cancer Study (AAHPC) Network Was conceived. This study became a model for genetic linkage studies in underrepresented populations.
Respond Study:
Research on Prostate Cancer in Men of African Ancestry: Defining the Roles of Genetics, Tumor Markers and Social Stress. The RESPOND Study will be one of the largest studies ever to look at the underlying factors and reasons that put African American men at higher risk for prostate cancer. Over the next five years, 10,000 African American men with prostate cancer will be recruited.
