SCIENCE STORY BOOK RUBRIC

Instructions

Science Book Guide (20 points): Pick a book with content which aligns with one or more domains in the GELDS or GaDoe Kindergarten (one age group/ developmental stage specific science standard from the GELDS Cognitive Development and General Knowledge domain and Science Subdomain or Kindergarten Science Georgia Standards of Excellence is required). Create a one-page user friendly storybook guide with tips and open-ended questions that educators or parents can use to teach target content with this storybook. – DUE April 15

Each storybook guide should include 5 major sections.

(3 points) A brief summary of the selected story

(3 points) A section listing target vocabulary (science focused)

(3 points) A section about the Science content highlighted in the book that children can learn about (provide examples for how this content is present in the book)

(3 points) A section with examples for how parents or teachers can talk about target Science topic/s and ask open-ended Science questions that you came up with (MUST include at least 4 open-ended questions; questions should not be already available in the book)

(3 points) A section to suggest a follow up activity that children can engage in to apply what their science learning from the story to their lives (ex. during play or daily routines)

(5 points) Other requirements:

Heading including the title of selected storybook and author, target Science topic, and target age level.

One standard that the storybook guide aligns with should be included at the very bottom of the guide. (Full sentence description of standard must be written)

Storybook guide should include sample pictures of book pages, be easy to read, and free of errors.

Storybook guide must be focused on a book of your choice (not Baby Goes to Market because we used it as a classroom example)
