Part II: Human Impact

Ecological Processes

Climate Change ( Global Warming)

B. Explain how human activities directly and indirectly impact the related ecological processes. Support your explanation with examples. Include citations for your resources using APA guidelines as needed.

Human use of fossils fuels is altering the climate system. We are putting too much carbon into the atmosphere by extricating and burning oil, gas, coal, and trees.

Gas or diesel-powered vehicles, using electricity powered by fossil fuel, propane, coal, and products and waste that is not bio-degradable like styrofeoam are all direct activities that climate change.

Many of the activities indirectly lead to lower water quality, air pollution, changes in how we use the land, and erratic change in temperature.

C. Explain how human activities in your local community directly and indirectly impact the related ecological processes. Support your explanation with examples. Include citations for your resources using APA guidelines as needed.

In my local community, there is a lot of trash and less recycling. Often times I see the children running around gas law parts or lawn mowers for hours at a time. Recycling we are contributing to the garbage that will be burned and contributing once again to damaging our atmosphere. By writing these gas powered machines is also producing carbon dioxide which is contributing to global warming. This brings about air pollution that directly impacts our wildlife, our water supply that we drink and swim in, and the overall smell in the air.

Part III: Potential Solutions

Potential Solutions

Making better choices

A. Identify potential solutions that have been proposed by the scientific community for mitigating the environmental issue, and briefly describe each. Include citations for your resources using APA guidelines as needed.

Solar panels are a resource that can be utilized to provide electricity not only to our designated homes but also to others. If we are able to financially utilize this option then we can help break our dependency on fossil fuels, gas, oils, and other resources that directly pollute our environment.

Recycling and producing biodegradable packaging will allow for us to reuse our waste or be able to have it safely break down into the ground.

Choosing better traveling options like carpooling, getting an electric vehicle, using a different mode of transportation if that is an option, and investing in a motor transportation that is healthier for the environment.

B. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of each proposed solution. Support your explanation with scientific facts. Include citations for your resources using APA guidelines as needed.

The advantages of solar panels is the ability to be able to use three sunlight to produce power. It saves money and our atmosphere at the same time.

The disadvantage is that if sunlight is not available then there has to be an alternate option to either reserve that power when needed or have a secondary power source.

The advantage of recycling and producing biodegradable packaging is that we can reuse or allow for nature to take its course with our waste. It will save us time, money, and most importantly will help cut back on the amount of wasteful products that we use on a daily basis.

The disadvantage is that not all products can be recycled and if the packaging is biodegradable it is possible that it would decompose faster than if it was a substance that didn’t break down or become compose.

The advantage to seeking a better traveling option will allow for markets to see the need for a better vehicle and will allow for a drop in the carbon dioxide emissions that are being produce each day.

The disadvantage is the financial impact. Most cars that are earth friendly are extremely expensive, and it raises the same point of having a alternate resource if the battery dies or if there is no sunlight available to charge the vehicle.

C. Briefly describe how human behavior would have to change in order for the solutions to be effective. Support your description with specific examples. Include citations for your resources using APA guidelines as needed.

As humans we are used to be idea of convenience and speedy service. We would have to change our way of thinking in every aspect of our lives. We need to become more knowledgeable and responsible for the decisions that we make and how we impact those around us. We would also have to understand that by making these changes we are going to have to invest time and money to produce the necessary products to help move the agenda forward. For example, taking the time to purchase products that are earth friendly. By researching what those products are will begin to invest in a company that is making the right decisions which will directly impacts other sellers to do the right thing and begin to make a change.

Part IV: Reducing Personal Impact

Reducing Personal Impact

A. Identify your personal habits and daily activities that impact the ecological processes related to the larger environmental issue and describe the impact of each habit or activity.

One of my daily habits, is going to the house and turning off all of the lights, electrical devices, and turning off any left on water by my children. By doing so this helps to stop the waste of electricity that we use on a daily basis unnecessarily.

Also I have been doing a lot more shopping online and limiting my trips to the store instead of going three times a week I try to make it one week or two weeks if possible.

I looked for a position that would allow me to work from home so there is not two people that is driving distances each day in my home.

Recycling as much as possible to help reduce the waste and contribute to reusing whatever we can.

B. Based on the ecological impact of your previously identified habits and activities, describe how your daily life impacts the larger environmental issue.

By doing these things in my daily life in allows for me to use less and how to reduce the amount of fuel that has to be burned at least in my household. It helps to reduce the carbon footprint that I am leaving on mother Earth.

It also helps to show my children will begin to build healthy habits as well to go forth and do the same to protect mother Earth and began to take strides to reduce the amount of damage that we are causing.

C. Prioritize your previously identified habits and daily activities by which have the greatest impact on the environmental issue. Support your prioritization with scientific evidence.

The most important habit that I have is taking the time to make sure that we are not wasting electricity. Many electric companies are earning and producing massive amounts of carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions into our atmosphere to provide the service that I am wasting inside my home.

Choosing not to travel for employments and reducing travel activities helps a great deal. We live in a rural area so traveling first food can be a 30 minutes a 45 minute drive one way. So limiting those trips and not being required to drive to and from work is one less person on the road producing carbon dioxide.

Recycling is extremely important because I’m taking the time to separate garbage that will be burned and will produce harmful emissions into the atmosphere. By separating the products that can be recycled it truly does help reduce my carbon footprint and my damage to mother Earth.

D. Based on your prioritization, list three strategies that will help mitigate the negative environmental impacts of the top three personal habits and daily activities you have identified. For each strategy, you must do the following:

i. Explain how the corresponding habit or activity will be altered by the strategy. Support your explanation with specific examples.

By being responsible conscious of what you are utilizing when it comes to any resource will help lower the need and cost to produce resources like coal, propane, fossil fuels, and any other product outside of an environmentally safe alternative will allow for our resources to be preserved and not wasted

For example, I noticed on my electric bill they show me what I use on a daily rate as well as where I was the year before all my daily rate usage. With that information I’m able to see if any of the changes that I am implementing our work. One year ago today the average daily use was 115 kW per hour we’re down to 86 kW per hour as of today.

So they’re tracking my usage as well as others to determine what our potential needs will be and what they can use to provide each of the services.

If each person takes the time to be responsible and make sure that they use alternate options when available and check to make sure that when it’s not needed it’s off or unplugged will help them to budget better for actual need versus our waste or unintentional use.

D. Based on your prioritization, list three strategies that will help mitigate the negative environmental impacts of the top three personal habits and daily activities you have identified. For each strategy, you must do the following:

ii. Explain how your use of this strategy and corresponding changes in your personal life will contribute to the previously identified potential scientific solutions. Support your explanation with scientific facts.
