RECOMMENDED ARTICLES FOR ASSIGNMENT 1
These articles were selected by your instructors. They meet all of the criteria for Assignment 1:
Each article is less than four years old (after 2014)
Each article concerns a DNA-related biotech topic that can serve as the topic for your other
three writing assignments in this series, as intended
Each article is written for a general audience of non-scientist readers
Each article is long enough to give you some material to summarize and provide grist for each
required section of Assigment 1, but not excessively long (though some are longer than others).
It doesn’t matter to us how you access the article, as long as you can access the full text. As a
best practice, you should give the URL that you used to get the article in your Source List.
We recommend that you select an article from this list as your “target article” for Assignment 1. If you
have another article that you want to use, it is strongly recommended that you run it by one of your
instructors. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Jim Cox, Lead Instructor, at
COMMENTS ABOUT THE LINKS
All of the articles in this list were found using one of the databases in the Strayer Library. Google
searches are okay, but sometimes return too many low-quality links
You may have to log in to the specified Strayer Library database first, for the links to work
In some cases, the articles may also be available through the publication’s website, although they may
be behind a paywall or require registration. For instance, the New York Times allows you to read only x
number of articles per month for free.
