Final Exam Fall 2019
In the school’s class this semester, we have discussed:
a.) behavior modification techniques to help reframe our thinking
and to realize what is and what is not effective in terms of
managing behavior;
b.) building a resource binder for future reference when working
with school-aged children;
c.) examining the relationship between adolescent language
problems and encounters with the juvenile justice system;
d.) building a theme-based language unit with measurable goals,
objectives and activities for third grade students.
Despite all of the wonderful things that we have learned about
improving learning in the school setting, school shootings occur and
they are devastating for everyone involved.
“The pain is grinding, and it feels like it’s never going to stop,” says retired
teacher Paula Reed, who survived the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School
that left 13 dead and more than 20 injured. Reed struggled with PTSD and says she
was suicidal by the three-year anniversary of the shooting at her school. Symptoms
of PTSD can include agitation, hostility, hypervigilance, self-destructive behavior,
social isolation, insomnia, nightmares, emotional detachment and unwanted
thoughts. PTSD has been linked to suicide.
