Health-Related Scenarios
Scenario #1 Earlier this year, Patricia received a liver transplant at Eastland University Hospital. Prior to the surgery, Patricia and her healthcare team discussed the protocols she would need to follow before and after the transplant. During those consultations, Patricia agreed that she would take medication for the rest of her life to support the functioning of her new liver. Now, six months post-surgery, it is apparent that Patricia is not taking the medication as indicated. Ryan, a nurse who is familiar with her case, believes that if the hospital offered more patient education after surgery, patients like Patricia would adhere to their medication regimens.
Scenario #2 Clara is an administrator and nurse educator in an integrated health system. She has noticed that many nurses and other personnel do not sanitize their hands each time they enter a patient’s room, even though the health system uses visual aids to remind everyone of the importance of this safety measure. Clara is curious as to why this is happening and wonders what would be needed to facilitate comprehensive adoption of the procedure.
Scenario #3 Roberto has been examining statistics related to diabetes. Through his previous coursework, he learned about potential implications of maternal diabetes for the health of newborns. He would like to better understand the relationship between maternal diabetes and infant mortality, and see if this is a significant public health concern that should be addressed in his community.
