Cybersecurity
CIS212 Scenario -Project
Congratulations! You have gotten your dream job in cybersecurity. After a number of interviews, you landed a job as a Security Administrator for a software development company. It is an exciting time to join the team because the company is experiencing unprecedented growth. They are expecting to add between 20 and 30 programmers to the payroll this year, doubling the size of the company.
Your new company has recently had a security audit by an external group who rated their security performance as “extremely lacking in-depth and performance.” One of your first tasks as the Security Administrator will be to secure documents and to program and educate the employees about security in the company.

HR Needs
Your company has 20 programmers, 10 administrators, and an external Human Resources (HR) department that handles payroll as well as hiring new employees. The external HR group also handles setting up the new employees in the company systems and issuing them a laptop which they will use as their work computer. This work laptop will also serve their needs when they are away from the office working remotely.
Audit Report Concerns
Upper-level management is concerned that the audit report disclosed that your systems are unsafe, and are worried this news will reach your customers and cause them to move their business to other companies. There is also a concern that this new focus on security is taking your programmers away from their primary duties, which is to produce custom software for your customers. Your charge is to eliminate the security issues and restore a sense of balance to the company.
Internet Speed Concerns
Currently, each employee has an individual connection to the internet through DSL modems located at their desks. This was done by simply adding DSL to the existing phone wires. Adding new users has been no problem, as it only involves adding a new DSL line to the office at the new programmer’s desk. All of the DSL modems currently give a 1Mbs connection to the internet. It would be desirable to increase the connection speed.
Security Concerns
Each programmer logs into a cloud server where all of the company’s programming data is kept. When asked about the security arrangement of the cloud server, no information could be found about the company except that the service was inexpensive.
