M2 Assignment 3 Discussion

You will be attempting two discussion questions in this module; each worth 28 points. The total number of points that can be earned for this assignment is 56.
1) Models of Addiction
The medical model of addiction suggests that addiction has a physiological component and that, as a disease, it is progressive. This model is commonly used in inpatient treatment facilities, and a diagnosis is needed for most third-party payers (insurance or managed care) to pay for treatment.
The biopsychosocial model incorporates not only the physical aspect of addiction but also the social aspects. Additionally there are a number of other models and theories related to addiction.
Which model do you view as most relevant for understanding and treating addiction? Support your opinion with experience or research. 2) Evaluation Criteria for Discussion Question Response: Discussed in detail the model you view as most relevant for understanding and treating addiction. [8 points] Supported your opinion with experience or research. [8 points]
Ethical Treatment
You have studied several theoretical approaches and models for treating addiction. Discuss how working from a specific theoretical framework affects the ethical treatment of clients. Is it helpful to work from one specific approach rather than from an integrated approach (using several different theoretical approaches)? Do you think it is important to use research-based treatment options? 3) Evaluation Criteria for Discussion Question Response: Discussed how working from a specific theoretical framework affects the ethical treatment of clients. [4 points] Discussed whether it is helpful to work from one specific approach rather than from an integrated approach. [8 points] Provided your views on whether it is important to use research-based treatment options. [4 points]
