Informative Essay Assignment (30 pts)
1. Write a 2 page essay (2 pts) (excluding the reference list) on: What are Mendelian genetics? What are the proposed traits? How do you apply it to real life genotypes? What is the difference between monohybrid crosses and dihybrid crosses? What is the purpose of Punnett squares and the chi-square test?
2. Since there are multiple questions, you can relate each question to each other instead of doing an intro/body/conclusion for each question.
INTRODUCTION - A great introduction will tell the reader what they need to know to understand what the main body of the essay is all about. It is an overview of the topic.
· What is the question about? Explain your interpretation of the question and what it is asking you to do. (1 pts)
· Why is the question important? Identify the main points raised by the question. (1 pts)
· How are you going to answer it? What are you going to cover in your essay? (1 pts)
MAIN BODY – 2 paragraphs required.
· Each paragraph should focus on a different point under discussion and have its own introductory and concluding sentence. Each point you make in your essay needs to be backed up with evidence (paraphrased evidence that needs to be referenced). (4 pts)
· Make it very clear how your point and evidence link to the essay question. Here you need to create your discussion and argument. The books, articles and search material that you read for your essay provide the evidence needed to back up your points. (4 pts)
· Make sure your points flow in a logical and well organized order, allowing your discussion and argument to be clear to the reader. Explain how and why this evidence supports your point and what you think of it (your own interpretation and critical thinking). (4 pts)
CONCLUSION - This should be a summary of the main body of your essay.
· In the first sentence the essay question is reiterated. (2 pts)
· The main points of the essay are summarized in the body of the conclusion. (1 pts)
· Summarize the main points of your argument, relate them back to the question and show the answer you have reached. (1 pts)
· What is the significance and implication of your findings? (1 pts)
· Do you have any suggestions for future research? (1 pts)
· Don’t make new points in the conclusion. (1 pts)
· The final sentence shows the answer reached. (1 pts)
3. The essay needs to be in Times New Roman, 12 point font, and double spaced. (1 pts)
