Instructions for Logging In

For the First Time

MOTIVATION The University Alliances North America tenant has been made available for faculty and students at universities who belong to the University Alliances and are hosted by one of the North America University Competency Centers (UCCs). SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) is an open collaborative platform for business intelligence intended for internal business use where employees share with each other. SAC does not protect user identities since everyone is assumed to work for the same organization. Thus, the UCC at Magdeburg has developed an Identity Management System (IDM) to protect academic users’ identities within our SAC tenant. While you will still be able to share with others, you will not know their private information such as an email address.

IMPORTANCE Because your email address will be known only to you, the user, only you will be able to reset your own password. Your UCC, the system administrator, or others will not be able to help you should you have forgotten your password. Therefore, it is extremely important that you follow the steps on the following pages when you sign into SAC for the first time with the login ID that has been provided you. (There are three steps in this document.)

	Step 1: Sign in to SAP Analytics Cloud for the first time
Task Sign in to SAP Analytics Cloud.	Time 10 min
Click on the link below for SAC Client. The SAC client is:  https://higher-education.us10.sapanalytics.cloud  When you first log into SAP Analytics Cloud, University Alliances tenant, you will be directed to the Identity Management System developed by SAP UCC Magdeburg. This provides anonymous identities for logging on to SAP cloud solutions to comply with Global data security regulations.	Start
In the login window, enter the user provided by your instructor with the corresponding password. Then, click on Sign In.	User Password Sign In
Note If you are logging into SAC with this user for the first time and with an initial password, you will be prompted to enter a personal password for this user.
After you have entered your new password twice in the Update password window, confirm with Submit.	Password of your choice
After logging in, you will be taken to the Home Screen.	Home Screen

	Step 2: VERY IMPORTANT: Set profile settings in SAC
Task Set your profile settings in SAC.	Time 5 min
Immediately after logging in, the first thing you need to do is adjust a few important things in SAC. To do this, click at the top right on the “ghost” icon and then on Profile Settings to change your profile settings in SAC.	Start
Note Your personal data is stored exclusively in the Identity Management System at the SAP University Competence Center Magdeburg in compliance with data protection regulations. Next, make sure to store your valid email address there. If you complete this step and you forget your password, you can have it reset. If you do not complete this step, you (and your instructor) will be unable to reset your password.	Personal Data
Here iw where you click on Edit Profile.	Edit Profile
You will now be taken to the Identity Management System of UCC Magdeburg, where your personal data is stored in compliance with DSGVO. Here iw where you can click on Personal Info.	Personal Info
Enter your email address. Optionally, you can also enter your first and last name.	Email Address First Name Last Name
Save your changes with . From now on, you can reset your password yourself if necessary.
With the settings you have made, you have also ensured that you can be notified by email when another user shares content in SAC with you.
Now close the browser tab with the Identity Management System of the UCC Magdeburg. You should see the SAC Profile Settings window again.	Profile Settings
Change the user settings ( User Preferences). To do so, select (Edit) in the right part of the screen.	User Preferences
Change the settings in the drop-down menus as shown below if needed and then confirm your entries with Save .	Save

	Step 3: Sign out of SAC
Task Successfully sign out of SAC.	Time 5 min
You are logged in to SAC and would like to sign out.	Start
To sign out of SAC, click on . Then, select Sign out.	Sign Out
After successful logout, you will be redirected back to the logon screen at the Identity Management System of SAP UCC Magdeburg.

INTRODUCTION TO SAP ANALYTICS CLOUD

This case study introduces SAP Analytics Cloud to use data visualization to analyze various datasets.

1. Data Visualization

The human visual system has evolved to be particularly good at recognizing patterns. Data visualization has become a standard analytical tool which capitalizes on the ability of humans to recognize patterns within massive quantities of multi-dimensional data generated by business information systems. Many scientific studies have led to the creation of visualization models that utilize human perception and cognition.

When the number of dimensions is small, we can use standard graphing techniques for visualization e.g. bar charts, line charts, histograms, pie charts and scatter plots.

When the number of dimensions is large, there are several novel techniques for visualizing such data. They are categorized into the following major areas [footnoteRef:1] – For more information on these visualization techniques, please refer to the journal reference in the footnote. [1: Keim D. 2. Using SAP Analytics Cloud

We will now use SAP Analytics Cloud.

SECTION 1:

Launch Google Chrome. If you do not have it, install it as it is the only browser that works well.

For future logins click on the link below for SAC Client:

The SAC client is:  https://higher-education.us10.sapanalytics.cloud 

SECTION 2.

Once the system loads you should see a screen that looks like this:

1. Click Create your first Story

Note: if you don’t see this, click on the three bars top right

The menu will expand and you should then click on Stories

2. Next, click on “Canvas”

3. Next click on “Insert”

And select “Chart”

4. Next click on “Files” and select “Public”

a. Models have already been created for us and are found in the “Public” folder.

5. Next Select “Models” for “publicly available model”

6. Next click on “GBI Dataset”

(This is the dataset given for this assignment)

7. You are now ready to begin charting!

Choosing Accounts and dimensions:

a. What is an Account ? An Account is a field on which calculations can be made. These are fields of business interest for analytics. e.g. revenue, profit, quantity sold. The calculations can sum, min, max, average, count etc. Accounts are also called measures, key figures, or facts.

b. What is a Dimension ? A dimension is reference information about a measure. It provides context for the measures. E.g. customer, time, product. Revenue by customer is an example of how you would report a measure by a dimension.

c. Several charting options are available for visualization on the right side of the screen – bars, lines, pies, geographic, scatter/bubble, maps, radar, tag cloud etc.

d. Using the appropriate charting technique, answer the following questions. Hints are provided for each question.
