Safety Warnings

READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

· ELECTRICAL SAFETY: Use only the cables supplied or certified equivalents. Do not use it if housing, cables, or solar panels are cracked/ damaged.

· POWER SOURCE: The Green-Charge can be charged through solar charging or using a standard 5V, 2A USB wall charger. Do not charge using fast-charging adapters, such as PD or QC, as this may cause battery damage.

· ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Water: Do not submerge in water. It is weather-resistant, not waterproof. It should not be left exposed to direct, harsh sunlight when it is not being charged. It should not be exposed to temperatures below -10°C or above 45°C.

· BATTERY CARE: For the longest battery life, recharge the system altogether at least every 3 months when not in frequent use. Do not puncture or open the system.

Getting Started & Operation

Step 1: Initial Charge (Recommended)

For optimal battery performance, we recommend a full initial charge using a Green-Charge with a wall outlet.

1. Plug the USB-C end of the included cable into the INPUT port, which is situated on the side of the Green-Charge.

2. Plug one end into a regular 5V/2A USB wall adapter.

3. The LCD screen will light up, showing its current charge level, which is indicated by the percentages. Charging from 0% to 100% will take 8 to 10 hours.

Step 2: Charging Your Devices

1. Make sure that your Green-Charge is well charged (check the LCD screen).

2. Connect your device (phone, tablet, GPS) to one of the OUTPUT ports using the corresponding cable.

· USB-C Output: For most modern smartphones and tablets.

· USB-A Output: Designed for Use with Older Devices.

3. Power supply starts automatically. An LCD screen will display the remaining battery capacity.

Step 3: Adjusting Color Temperature

1. Position the Solar Panels: Unfold the two high-efficiency solar panels and place the unit in  direct sunlight. For best results, adjust the angle to face the sun directly.

2. Initiate Solar Charge: Press and hold the  power button for 3 seconds. The sun icon will appear on the LCD screen, indicating that the device is harvesting solar energy.

3. Monitor: The screen will show the battery percentage increasing.  Note: Solar charging depends on the weather and sunlight intensity. A full solar charge can take 12-18 hours under ideal conditions.

Care & Maintenance

· Cleaning: Wipe the solar panels and casing with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use chemicals or abrasive materials.

· Storage: Store in the provided pouch in a cool, dry place.

· Long-Term Health: If storing for more than a month, charge the battery to 50-60% first.

Troubleshooting (FAQs)

Problem

Possible Cause

Solution

The unit will not turn on or charge.

The battery is deeply depleted.

Connect to wall power for 30 minutes to “wake” the battery, then switch to solar.

Solar charging seems slow/ineffective.

Insufficient sunlight: panels are dirty; not angled correctly.

Clean the panels, reposition them for direct sun exposure, and ensure the sun icon is illuminated on the display.

Device connected but not charging.

Output port or cable issue; device charging threshold.

Try a different cable and output port. Some devices require a minimum charge to initiate; ensure Green-Charge has more than 10% battery.

The unit will not turn on or charge.

The battery is deeply depleted.

Connect to wall power for 30 minutes to “wake” the battery, then switch to solar.

Part 2: Your Instruction-Writing Process

1. Target Audience

The target market for the Green-Charge Portable Solar Battery Pack comprises adults aged 20 to 60 who engage in activities, hobbies, or work-related tasks that require sustained focus and attention to detail. These might include crafts (such as sewing, knitting, or model-making), artistic pursuits, book readers, graduate- or professional-level students, and telecommuting experts (such as accountants and engineers) who work from home or in a home office. Their socioeconomic status would be mid-to-upper-middle class, with a need for a better tool to improve and support their craft or work.

2. Design Decisions & Principles

My design choices are also based on principles of clarity, accessibility, and visual hierarchy. For instance, I have used a clear Times New Roman font for my text because of its legibility in both hard-copy and electronic formats. The heading is formatted using a larger, bold font of the same style to avoid a conflict in text style without causing a distraction. Ample white space and line spacing were used to ensure that the page does not appear cluttered or complex. The table-based design of the troubleshooting section facilitates rapid access to solutions and their association with problems (Hoffman et al., 2024). A single warning symbol, prominently displayed, directs the user to the critical safety details. Color coding has been restricted to two aspects: the conceptual logo and the status-indicator LEDs (red, green, and amber), as these are how the hardware will be seen in practice.

3. Problems Encountered & Solutions

The biggest challenge of the whole thing was to convey the same information in fewer words. Including all the text to include all the information, or even part of it, would likely result in the manual being uninviting and heavy. I addressed the problem by focusing on the user's immediate needs: setup, primary operation, and standard issue resolution. Information on advanced features, such as how to turn off the auto-off function, has been moved to the online manual, as noted in the contact section (Hoffman et al., 2024). Another problem I faced was explaining the color temperature slide without an accompanying image.

4. Planning Steps

For planning purposes, I conducted certain activities. To begin with, I reviewed competitors' manuals for similar products to identify standard content and inform the practical design. Next, I began writing a detailed task analysis, in which I listed all the physical and mental actions expected of the user, from unpacking to complex operations. I also outlined the manual's structure, including task analysis and assignment criteria, and specified when pictorial content would be necessary and when textual content would suffice (Al-Zain et al., 2024). I created a rough sketch of each page layout to facilitate physical layout changes. Finally, I compiled all the technical specifications, such as charging time and battery life, from the relevant notes on product conception.
