Explain the implications of globalization.

Globalization is becoming evident all over the world. It is bringing different traditions from all over the world and affecting all levels of social life. Today there is an argument between theorists that increasing globalization, it is strengthening governance of capitalist and eroding local cultures. (Articulating the Global and the Local, 1).

Paraphrased…

Identify at least two ethical issues that go along with the global societal topic you have chosen for your final essay.

With the workforce demanding these new skills, thinking about teaching critical thinking skills for the 21stcentury many issues can arise.

1. Resource Differences: Lack of evidence-based approaches to demonstrate how to teach the needed skills and how soon curriculum is approved and released.

Different regions may not be able to afford and have access to adapt the needed curriculum or supplies to teach the sought after 21st century skills. According to Care, Kim & Vista (2018), “the Singapore swiss roll is an approach which is starting to be implemented across the core curriculum and it adopts the value-centric framework that incorporates the 21st century competencies, including civil literacy, global awareness, and cross-cultural skills; critical and inventive thinking; communication, collaboration and information skills; as well as social and emotional competencies” (p 1, para 2).

Costa Rica has changes coming for a new curriculum in 2018 with will help emphasize the development of 21st century skills. Meanwhile Asia is reviewing the requirements and taking the time to immensely research and develop their own plan.

1. Class sizes

For many cities school are overpopulated, leaving teachers less one on one time with the students. With class room sizes growing, there isn’t enough attention to reach every child. Somewhere along the lines, children are barely skimming by and aren’t acquiring the proper knowledge. According to the National Council of Teachers of English, “research shows that students in smaller classes perform better in all subjects and on all assessments when compared to their peers in larger classes” (Why Class Size Matters Today, 2017).

Explain how globalization contributes to or affects these ethical dilemmas.

With globalization happening, traditions including those of education are being dispersed all over the world. Some countries are more advanced than others, however the merging of educational needs to enter the demanding workforce with be affected. While there may be different learning styles, the 21st century skills are being adopted everyone. Children will learn the required skills to survive in the workforce.

Propose solutions to these ethical dilemmas that are feasible financially, socially, and culturally.

1. Resource Differences: Lack of evidence-based approaches to demonstrate how to teach the needed skills and how soon curriculum is approved and released.

Solution: globally we will never have one set curriculum standard. However, the skills are evident worldwide and different curriculums are formed. This benefits as we can all obtain different viewpoints and resources on how to teach these skills. Culturally there will be differences on how the information is taught, socially they will still be learning the same information, and financially we would allow each country to develop their own way of teaching. As not every area can afford the technology or equipment as another would.

1. Class sizes

Solution: Ultimately for these dilemmas, there needs to be either more teachers hired or more schools being built. Financially this may require more, there may need to be more teachers or more school built. There are often grey areas of crossing school districts. For example, while my address may be stated at Gettysburg, I am considered to be in Littlestown school district. This solution may be farfetched, but a new school district could be created for situations like stated above. Socially this eliminates large class sizes and culturally this opens more opportunities for jobs.
