1. I traveled to the Middle Colonies otherwise known as the mid-Atlantic region of English Colonial America, in the early 16th century, around 1624 (in the New York, New Jersey area).

2. I chose to travel to this location and time because of its rich multicultural feel and diversified functionality as a region and people (not necessarily for its landscape).

3. What intrigued me the most about this trip is polar opposite atmosphere of its predecessor colony of New England. The area is a melting pot of sorts with a wide variety of creeds, races, and religions. You can sense the opportunities for growth are vast. Speaking of growth, due to the intense cold weather here, vegetational growth wasn’t fertile or something this area is known for.

4. What challenged me the most about this trip is the sense of divide that comes with difference, as far as beliefs of social status and superiority complexes among the people. It’s almost as if a fear of change or difference, not being prepared and ready for what was being established. Also, the weather is extremely cold.

5. The most important lesson learned from this trip is that although you can never please everybody with what you believe, how you look, etc., diversity and difference is what truly makes a person, place, or thing distinct; and it’s about learning to embrace that difference. We can apply this lesson to today’s society by embracing change and difference, regardless of race, creed, gender, religion, etc. with a different perspective, thinking outside the box.
