Please Let me know what Option you Pick

Top of Form

OPTION ONE:  Howard (Sully) Sullenberger, pilot of the airliner that did an emergency landing in the Hudson in January 2009 is quoted as saying, “the entire 42 years of my career were captured in the 208 seconds prior to our landing in the Hudson".    In other words, he was making the point that his entire career would be evaluated based on those last 208 seconds.  Please discuss that quote and how it applies to almost any profession and any leadership role.   What are the implications of those comments regarding preparation and training?  Do you agree or disagree?  Why or why not?  How do those comments relate to the old Army recruiting slogan of “be all that you can be?”

OPTION TWO:   With baby boomers retiring now and over the next decade, what should the HR function in firms be doing to prepare for a leadership vacuum? What potential problems do you see these firms encountering? Share any ideas you have that could help solve these problems with your classmates.

OPTION THREE: The below-listed article addresses barriers women experience when returning home from an expatriate assignment such as not being treated as equals to the male leaders. This article highlights ways the company can help women with quality mentors and addresses ways for women to handle culture shock.  As the trainer, how would you address these issues impacting women expatriate employees for "repatriation"?

Option One:    Thus far the course has been breaking down concepts in "Training" and "Development" regarding a needs analysis and setting up the training program.  After you establish the needs and training objectives your next step is to design lessons to address the objectives and main topics.  Your lessons are complete and tomorrow is the first day of training.  You have been given a classroom to conduct the training.  What would you do first and what factors would you consider regarding the facility?  Explain why and your reasoning.

Option Two:  Many training professionals state that questioning is an art and technique that has to be learned, practiced, and mastered to enhance training, measure understanding, and engage trainees.  The military instructor training courses use a method called the "Apple" technique with "ask, pause, pick, listen, & expand" for each letter.  It is an effective technique and really helps engage the students. Discuss what you think each letter means and how it would fit into your training presentation.  Then explain whether you think this is an effective questioning technique and why or why not.
