The XYZ Corporation is a large private sector company that focuses on government

contracting. They have approximately 700 employees and are made of four divisions:

Information Technology and Processes, Administration (HR, payroll, etc.), Emergency

Management Services/Product Delivery (marketing, sales, etc.) and Health Crisis

Prevention/Product Delivery (also marketing, sales, client relations).

XYZ Corporation’s Project Management Office (PMO) supports three project

management (PM) methodologies: PMBOK- compliant Methodology (a traditional form of

PM), Agile Methodology (Agile Project Management or APM) and the PMBOK Agile Hybrid

Methodology, which combines both traditional and agile practices.

Agile Methodology and Scrum

Now more than ever, corporations have adopted the Agile Project Management

methodology. Agile methodologies focus more on customer involvement and an iterative

organizational structure, along with small-to-medium scale of projects. (Kashyap, 2021) One

common framework that is considered an Agile methodology is scrum. Scum helps to develop,

deliver and sustain difficult products. It is used to help implement Agile products. (2006) Scrum

consists of a set time frame, called sprints, to complete the set of tacks given.

Scrum Master- What Is It and What It Entails

In order for the scrum framework to be successful, it must have an expert at the practice

that can coach and lead others to completion. This is the responsibility of the scrum master. The

scrum master is typically a strong facilitator who arranges the regular meetings, coaches and

consults the team members in self-management, addresses team dynamics, and maximizes

productivity within the team. (2006) As the expert, the scrum master makes sure that the scrum

framework is implemented and iterated properly amongst the team. They facilitate daily

standups, plan sprint meetings, and notes areas for improvement for upcoming sprints. The

scrum master can also serve as the Product Owner (PO). In doing so, they can facilitate

stakeholder collaboration, assist in finding good techniques product backlog management, and

helps establish product planning for complex environments. (n.d.)

Conclusion

If XYZ Corporation chooses to use more Agile methodologies, then scrum/scrum sasters

are very beneficial to the functioning and completion of projects by the corporation. The #1

priority of scrum is shipping value to the customer/stakeholder. With regular sprint meetings to

stay abreast of any obstacles or concerns, the scrum master “helps the team enhance and

streamline the processes by which they achieve their goals.” (Rehkopf, 2022) This ensures the best

product for the customer.
