Literature as a World

Pascale Casanova is of the idea that literature transcends the historical, political and economic factors of the different nations around the world. A world literature according to her is when a text written in a different country is taken up by like-minded readers and critics who then adapt it to fit their regional context and make it their own. In this way, Pascale writes that literature transcends the physical boundaries, linking up like-minded individuals who find a common ground and thereby gain mutual respect for each other.

In this site, the author, Thomas Oliver Beebee reviews a variety of literary texts. His aim is to harmonize the divergent views that each literature has in such a way that writers and readers can have a common ground from where they will interact regardless of the regional boundaries they reside in.

Goethe is credited to be the proponent of world literature when he said that poetry is the universal possession of mankind which is revealed everywhere at all times in men all over the world. Just like Pascale, Goethe believed that literature can be a means of transcending the physical boundaries and connecting humankind regardless of the historical, economic and political diversities of each nation.
