Great posts I loved the Unilever example since they range from soaps and lotions to margarine, cosmetics and even have there hand in the ice cream industry. for years they concentrated on those products that were there most popular and largest sellers, Dove Soap, being a great example. They then expanded there product brand and sales mix kind of became there nitch.
The book gives a great example of Netbooks by Microsoft and how they attempted to cash in on mixed sales, but failed miserably because of the demand or lack of for more pc's.
