Healthcare practitioners are expected to be confident in performing clinical procedures. Patients put their trust in nurses according to their position. In my self-assessment of clinical skills and procedures, my confidence level was low as I realized that I selected new and beginning rates in most of the procedures. The low rates can be interpreted to mean that I need training on most of the procedures or the presence of a supervisor to boost my confidence level. I will also need to work hard through the guidance of my supervisors and critiques from receptors in order to achieve my goal of being highly confident at the end of the practicum. I will also need to follow all the instructions provided during the practicum session in order to be effective, which is essential in ensuring patient safety and the delivery of high-quality care services.
Summary of strengths:
Despite my low performance in the practicum, my main strengths include showing compassion for the professional care I provide to the patients. Other than showing sympathy, Durkin et al. (2019) argued that nurses do many things that help make the patient feel more comfortable. For instance, I use polite and motivating words to encourage the patient and the family members in difficult situations. I am also a good listener. Listening assists in understanding the perspective of the patient, thus enabling the nurse to show respect and allow patient autonomy.
Growth opportunities:
I have turned my weaknesses into opportunities for improvement. Some of the opportunities available for me from the self-assessment include being more proficient with clinical procedures such as biopsy, cerumen removal, and herpes culture among others. Another opportunity is a chance to prescribe medication to patients with or without supervision. I also

need to master EKG12 lead placement and interpretation. Since nurses are at the forefront of saving lives, Tahboub and Yilmaz (2019) argued that they need to be equipped with the basic skills to respond appropriately to cardiac issues that happen in the hospital.

By the end of the practicum, I strive to increase my confidence in performing nursing procedures with little or no supervision, especially in areas where I got a low rating. I also want to develop resource management skills in order to enhance efficiency and reduce related costs. I am also striving to accurately evaluate primary and differential diagnoses during the practicum period and prescribe the correct medication for distinct health conditions.
