Interdisciplinary Research // Writing & Communication mini-portfolio

Art is a language through which humans and nature communicate and express the deepest of messages. The skill of writing can be ranked, to some degree, as a work of art when concisely and articulately applied to express a particular aspect or topic in the most openly understandablemanner (Roth). Everybody in the contemporary world can write as it is a basic skill. However, only a few can constructively write comprehensibleinterdisciplinary research papers. Consciously, pursuing writing has taught me much. For instance, the first thing I learned was the way to critique writing actively and identify proficient and poor writing. As a result, my writing has taken a turn for the better. Additionally, researching on different topics and areas of study has been a total delight because I have gained understanding of vast things including orientalism, arts, media use, Seattle cities, communities, and research papers on other topics. A review of some of my best pieces covering two artifacts shows that my writing skills have advanced significantly as seen in the impressive mix of wording, depth of research, and diverse topics addressed.

I.

Markedly, aforementioned areas were accompanied by concepts, such as the importance of a research hypothesis, the way to formulate research questions and assess the validity of research proposals, and the art of exploring academic literature concerning the research topic. In particular, I found the project on social media in China informative and interesting. Notably, this involved carrying out thorough research on the state of social networking in China and specifically the ‘Wang Hong’ culture and platforms, such as WeChat and Weibo. The lesson provided an opportunity to analyze Wang Hong culture in the country. Notably, Wang Hong is an internet celebrity with many followers, but unlike the western world, he or she does not have to generate online content. Instead, the character is admired for looks, humor, and a sense of fashion and beauty. Such celebrities are also more approachable compared to those in the western world. Hence, their relationship with the fans is closer and more personal.

The Arts Research Proposal paper takes the reader through a comprehensively detailed journey of the role and essence of art in any culture. The introduction properly sheds light on what the paper entails in a concise manner. 

“Art is an important part of the culture of any community. It is a tool by which the community uses to showcase important elements of their culture according to have lived since time immemorial. Through art, it is possible to trace the path of progress that a group of people has had in their existence. For this reason, it is apparent that the kind of artistic elements that can be found in one community is very different from another.” Arts Proposal Research.

 Interestingly, the paper was highly educational not only about how to write a research proposal, but also about how art tells a story about a particular community especially its roots and development. The research on Bothell, a small city located in the Snohomish and King counties, Washington, particularly the culture and associated artistic relevance has attracted global attention due to unparalleled cultural diversity, which has continued to grow and expand in the United States. A major take away was to embrace cultural diversity while preserving one’s esteemed culture.

In conclusion, these writings consist of an impressive mix of wording that not only introduces readers to the topic but also sets precedence for deeply engrossing informative pieces. In addition, group projects have been constructive and life-changing. The unique responsibility of undertaking my part of the undertaking has taught me about being independent by learning critical problem-solving skills. I also gained valuable skills such as communication skills through critically argued writings, interdisciplinary research, as well as teamwork that can be applied in other academic and non-academic settings. As a writer, I have grown immensely as characterized by the evolution of my pieces. I am confident that I can continue to better my writing skills to advance my career and probably consider writing as a career in the future.
